Try pheromone diffusers if you believe that territorial stress is part of the inappropriate urination issue. These products give off a synthetic version of the “happy cat” pheromone, which makes cats feel less stressed and more likely to use their litter box.
I purchased a house and the previous owner had five indoor dogs and numerous others outside. I liked the carpet, it was plush and probably expensive for the previous owners to put in, but the odor was almost unbearable and their was a few really dirty high traffic areas. I tried everything on the internet, baking soda, vinegar, every shampoo out there and nothing work. I was going to get all new carpet and decided to try one more thing. I put granulated pool chlorine in the shampooer with a little carpet soap. Worked like magic. Not only did it COMPLETELY eliminate the pet odor, it also cleaned the carpet to like new. The Pool Chlorine is really strong so you have to open all your windows or it will make your eyes sting. It does not discolor your carpet at all. The stronger the solution the better. It also makes the carpet dry faster. The smell is horrible for about an hour or two but its well worth it. I have my own shampooer but I probably could have gotten it done faster with a rented one. If you are considering getting new carpet because of pet odor try GRANULATED POOL CHLORINE first.

I have a 25 yr old satillo tile with concrete grout floor. I have always had a variety of animals in my home and for some reason this has been the place where the accidents happen. I have tried all kinds of things that appear to work but then the smell comes back. Especially in the damp winter time. I have a 23 yr old macaw that does have some respiratory deficiency in the house so I can’t use anything that will harm him.

You go to the pantry to get a fresh roll of paper towels and are relieved that they are the extra absorbent and the super strong type with the beefy guy on the package. Ripping open the package you assault the offensive sausage or mop up the little ocean of urine. After cleaning up the land mines or your yellow river you mount an assault on the odor using a bazooka size air freshener, you fumigate the entire room.
Good for cleaning urine stains, especially with those yellow ones. Can have effects on old stains too. It saved me from a two-year stain on my carpet. At first, I was just trying to test it but the effect really shocked me. But the remover is not very effective on other types of stain though. The smell removing feature is good too, especially with urine. It has a mild fragrance which will fit most people’s interest.
I went ahead and scrubbed the baseboards with white vinegar. Then I found the peroxide/water suggestion. I tried that. Now I have a strong odor of vinegar in the room. I have opened the windows to let it air out. Not sure, but I feel like I have made things worse.

Anyone who owns a cat has probably smelled the foul odor of cat urine at some point. The strong, pungent smell can radiate throughout a home and, if not cleaned up properly, can become even stronger over time and create unpleasant fumes similar to ammonia.[1] In addition to the unwelcome odor, cat urine can also leave stains, especially on fabric and carpet. Because it can be difficult to remove, learning how to clean cat urine effectively and quickly is key to keeping your home and furniture fresh and urine-free.

Start off by taking all of the furniture apart – pillows, blankets and the like – and vacuuming everything thoroughly. If the sofa and chairs have removable slipcovers or cushion covers, take those off for washing (details later). Get into the crevices of the furniture as deep as possible to remove all the hair, and flip the bed mattress to get both sides. On the floors, make sure to get under all of the furniture and in the corners, where “hair bunnies” tend to gather.
We just got two kittens about a week and a half ago. They both use the litter box, but I noticed he doesn’t cover up. As I was cleaning today I’ve noticed cat pee and a lot of different places. I caught him tonight peeing on my daughter’s bed, a mink blanket I got in Korea. He is only 7 to 9 weeks old and we got him from the animal shelter. Do you think it’s because he’s still young and having accidents or could there possibly be something else? Everything else about him is great. Oh, we do have 2 dogs but they are separated by a baby gate so they can see each other but not so much interaction just yet.
Noxious odors on restoration and cleaning jobs can be tough to remove. Odors can permeate the entire job site, making it an unpleasant place for customers to live and work in. In some cases, strong odors can even prevent restoration and cleaning crews from getting to work.
DIY:: Pet Urine Odor Remover: 2 parts water to 1 part mouthwash Spray area completely and lay newspaper on top The newspaper will absorb the smell completely… but if it’s an older accident you may need to do it a couple of times.
Clean pet messes immediately. You may be tempted to leave extra nasty messes for later, but try to act as soon as possible to avoid lingering odors. Pick up solid waste and throw it in the garbage. Blot the mess to absorb excess moisture. Spray the mess with an enzyme cleaner, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then, blot the area with rags or a cloth and let it air dry.
I ran into a problem with my one dog going pee in the house and I knew something was wrong because I let her out every hour. So I ended up taking a urine sample to the vet and she had crystals in her urine which causes great pain in their bladder. The vet said it was like little pieces of glass in her bladder. I am treating her with Crananidin and Cosequin every other day because when so took it every day her poop was like soft serve ice cream. Works great no more pee in the house. Consult you vet for proper dosage. Nutramax pharm.
Thanks justmesuzanne, but I haven’t found any odor problems after treating the area promptly with just vinegar and baking soda. Listerine is a good tip (apparently this product was first invented as a floor cleaner and only later became a mouthwash!!). I would definitely recommend checking that it has no effect on the color of the carpet by testing in an inconspicuous area first though.
I have 2 adult dogs and one just had a litter of 10 puppies, I have had to tear up the carpets in my home 3 times. I have only a center carpet left and now the smell of dog urine is back and I am done throwing out carpet. Please help to rid the smell and maybe some way to deture them from using the same spots all the time

Urine is composed of things that require enzymes to break down its chemical bonds.[2] For example, when a pet pees, urea in their urine breaks down into a bacteria that produces the distinct scent of urine. As the urine is left longer to decompose, the smells become worse. Fortunately, most chemicals in urine are easily removed by water and other household detergents. However, uric acid is the only component that is not water soluble and must be broken down by enzymes.
We have only had good results with the enzyme based Natures Miracle product in the red sprsy bottle, unless it has been changed . Their aerosol can carpet product uses a strong masking perfume abd we do not recommend that version.
