Another option: Mix a solution of 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide and 1 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent in a bowl. Sprinkle baking soda on the soiled area. Pour the liquid solution on the baking soda and the stain. Gently rub the area with a soft-bristled brush or cloth. Let it sit for 10 minutes (longer if the vomit has dried.) Use a towel to remove as much liquid as possible, then vacuum the area. For a tough stain, you may have to repeat these steps.

Thanks justmesuzanne, but I haven’t found any odor problems after treating the area promptly with just vinegar and soda. Listerine is a good tip (apparently this product was first invented as a floor cleaner and only later became a mouthwash!!). I would definitely recommend checking that it has no effect on the color of the carpet by testing in an inconspicuous area first though.
Wipe up and blot. Using paper towels, blot up as much of the urine as possible if the surface is fabric or carpet. With these surfaces, there is a danger of the urine soaking into the fibers of the material. Use a gentle dabbing motion to blot up the urine.[4]
Alternative 1: Vinegar and baking soda. Soak up as much urine as possible from the upholstery. Liberally sprinkle baking soda on the stain, and let it sit for 5 minutes. The baking soda will help to deodorize the stain. In a spray bottle or other container, mix equal parts water and distilled white vinegar. Spray or pour the mixture onto the baking soda-covered stain, and let sit for another 5 minutes. Then blot the stain with a cloth or paper towel to dry it.
Open windows. Fresh air is one of the greatest ways to get rid of bad smells in the house, because the smells can be carried out of the open windows and replaced with clean air. In spring, summer, and fall, open a few windows throughout the house. To create a breeze, open windows that are on opposite sides of the house.
I am so thankful for this stuff. We have 2 bigger dogs ( that aren’t the best smelling bless their hearts) and 3 cats with 2 very stinky litter boxes. This completely gets rid of anything gross like odors. LOVE THIS
If it isnt a lot of pee, then repeatedly rinsing and drying the area MAY work, as may using something that draws out liquid, such as bicarb of soda or even salt… (so you wash the stain, dab dry, pour on the powder/salt, leave to dry, vacuum off).
And the smell that is coming from somewhere in your home is unmistakable. Your home has the smell of a kennel and you then must act like a CSI agent to find the smell. Worse yet, you may have found it right away when you slipped on something in the kitchen. Either way you want relief and you want it now!
Here’s how to clean vomit from carpet. The acid in vomit can stain a surface fast, so wipe it up as soon as you can. Use a dustpan or scraper to remove the larger chunks. Blot with a towel to clean up the moisture. Mix a solution of 2 cups of warm water, 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap and 1/2 cup of vinegar. Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the mixture and apply to the soiled area. Blot lightly. You may need to do this a couple of times to remove a tough stain. When the stain is gone, remove cleaner by putting a cloth dipped in clean water on the area. Blot dry with a towel.
Do not use in a spray applicator on carpets, upholstery or similar surfaces. WHY? Because urine is a hot liquid that leaves your pet at over 100 degrees, and quickly spreads UNDERNEATH carpet and INTO upholstery. If you spray the surface, STINK FREE Instantly will NOT sufficiently reach and neutralize deep contamination. However, it is okay to spray HARD surfaces with STINK FREE Instantly Urine Odor Remover. Just be sure the STINK FREE product reaches deep into cracks and crevices, just as the urine would have soaked in. Directions: IMPORTANT! Check material for color fastness before applying (Do not use if material is not color-fast). COMPLETELY saturate the ENTIRE contaminated area and let dry.** DONE! **IMPORTANT! For thick materials, such as carpets, saturate an area wider than the surface stain. Urine is absorbed both horizontally and vertically, in a pyramid-like pattern, which makes the contaminated area below the surface larger than the surface stain.Works for All Urine Odor.
