“best dog urine cleaner +getting rid of cat odor in a house”

This may be particularly true for dead animals that are decomposing in your home without your knowledge. “Animal carcasses are often hidden in crevices of the home or behind layers of sheetrock.” If this is the case, and you’re able to locate the source in your home, you may be able to tackle the decomposition odors.
Kent, despite your rudeness, I decided to approve your comment. The idea here is, after all, to help people. If you don’t like my remedy, don’t use it. If you think it’s too complicated, then you’re simply too lazy. As for the abundance of chemicals, I ask you to read the back of your can of Resolve. Do that, then we can talk about chemicals. Finally, as for the “so-called” need to add things to the laundry, I only suggest the addition of apple cider vinegar, which I have done numerous times with great results. It’s simple, it’s cheap, it’s a natural disinfectant. Why wouldn’t you use it? I wish I could say I was sorry to hear about your cat problem, but in all honesty, I think you deserve it.
Consider using ultraviolet light to explore more thoroughly. If you want to be thorough, buy a UV or fluorescent black light of a portable size. Look for a long bulb so you can cover more ground at much, preferably longer than 12 inches (30cm). Cheap bulbs with the housing included can be found at most hardware stores. Although pet stores sell the lights as well, they’re usually smaller and more expensive. They can also be purchased at a reasonable cost online, depending on how much time you have to wait around living with the odor.
We have 3 cats one pees on carpet down stairs not all time but regularly she has diabetes we are getting the carpet professionally cleaned soon and wondered if it would help if I sprayed the carpet down with vinegar a while before they come to neutralize the pee ?
Clean the garbage can. Before putting a fresh bag into the empty garbage can, give the can itself a good cleaning to remove any spills or particles that could cause lingering smells. To clean the garbage can:[7]
I’ve been using the vinegar/water mix for years to rid the carpet of pet odors. It’s always worked well for me. I like the baking soda suggestion and if I get in a position where V/W doesn’t work, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestions Angie’s!
It is great if you noticed the puddle immediately and started to clean up. But what should we do if the carpet is already dry and we need to get rid of dog pee smell? We should mix one cup of hydrogen peroxide with 1 tablespoon of dishwashing soap. Using the brush wash the spot properly. It is better to wash even a bit bigger surface than the spot itself.
And to get the odor out of your vacuum: Dump a bunch of baking soda on the floor. Vacuum it up. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat probably twice more, then repeat as needed. This is NOT to be done immediately after vacuuming up the offending substance; do this on a random day when you’re vacuuming random stuff and say, “hey, gross, this smells like cat piss.” Obviously do all necessary cleaning and filter replacements FIRST, plus make sure the canister or whatever is empty….but this really works! Doesn’t matter if you use hard ground or carpet.
Cover the stain with paper towels or rags and walk lightly over or place something heavy on top to soak up any excess liquid. Sprinkle a generous handful of baking soda over the stain when no more liquid can be pulled up, and mix together ½ cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide and 1 teaspoon of dish liquid. Slowly pour the solution over the stain and baking soda. Gently scrub the mixture into the carpet fibers with a scrub-brush or cloth, and then let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Vacuum the area thoroughly. For stains, repeat the above steps.
This product is designed to be safe for use on fibers and soft surfaces such as carpet, upholstered furniture, mattresses and bed linens. It is also specially designed to eliminate remove urine odors and stains and has a light fragrance which quickly dissipates. Our hydrogen-peroxide disinfectants are designed for disinfecting hard, nonporous surfaces.
For linens, blankets and cushion covers, add a ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar to any oxy-powered detergent powder, such as boric acid, and launder as usual. Also, leaving a deep glass dish of white vinegar standing in a room with an offensive odor usually takes the odor out of the air.
If you don’t have hydrogen peroxide on hand you can substitute it with a laundry spray stain remover. Check the bottle. If it says ‘Oxy’ anywhere on the label then it probably contains hydrogen peroxide. Preen, Sard, OxiClean etc.

Hydrogen peroxide, or H2O2, is a powerful oxidizer that renders the chemicals in strong, acidic pet fluids, such as urine or vomit, inert. Peroxide breaks down the crystallizing compounds in urine and also removes stains. Be sure to test for color fastness before applying.
Mattresses require the same process as cushion. After applying the enzymatic cleaner, letting it sit and blotting it up, place several layers of clean towels over the area and then make the bed. Swap out the towels each day until the mattress completely dries. To discourage peeing on the spot while the mattress dries, cover the bed with a large plastic sheet or tarp when you’re not using it. DeFeo also suggests keeping a plastic cover over your mattress at all times, particularly if your cat has taken to peeing outside its litter box.
Really helpful! The light sounds especially useful, as I have mostly black and other dark fabrics. Accidents are hard to spot! Our dog doesn’t actually pee in the floor, he is just one of those dogs that sprinkles when he is happy (and excited, scared, upset, sleeping, etc!)

Had fungus on my left thum nail which was brittle and splitting and right big toe nail … doctor prescribed Penlac it’s like nail polish … apply to and under nails … Back to normal in about 3 to 4 months
Hopefully, a general cleaning is all that is needed. If the urine has seeped into the wall or under the floor, you may have to call in the professionals. It may be necessary to remove and replace sections of flooring or walls.
Add a one-pound box of baking soda to your regular detergent and wash as usual, air-drying if possible. If you can still see or smell the soiling, wash again with an enzymatic cleaner — these break down pet-waste odors.
Pet odor eliminator reviews from pet owners: “There was a mystery stain that showed up in an extra bedroom that looked so questionable I didn’t even want to stick my nose in it… (I have 3 adult dogs, 1 puppy and 1 cat). I sprayed some Rocco on the spot, left…”
I used this method on a bed set my brother was going to throw away … it is an expensive set … with the vinegar and baking soda I added liguid dish detergent … The cat pee stain and odor was removed and now I have a Queen size bed … it works great … Thanks for sharing your knowledge
I have a cat that was sick with a uti and he urinated in this one spot over and over again. I’ve tried a vinegar solution, commercial cleaners and had it professionally cleaned and the smell will not go away. How do you recommend using the Borax? If this doesn’t work then I’m gonna have to pull up the carpet.
LR, I would give it a good soak in soapy water with some vinegar, then I’d rinse it really well, then I’d give it a soak with some enzymatic cleaner and let it air dry. As for not being able to see pee on dark objects…. that’s new to me. It makes me wonder if your cat has very dilute urine. It’s possible it has some kidney problems. Might want to see a vet.

Hello, one of my 2 cats has peed (a lot!) on my sofa – so that two of the large seat cushions, as well as the space between them (down into the sofa structure) are soaked. I have sprayed/soaked the affected areas with Fresh ‘n Clean, but just noticed that the label states that the formula includes baking soda deodorizers, but no enzymes. I have two main questions: (1) Since it does not contain enzymes, is Fresh ‘n Clean one of those that only mask the odor? Is it not effective in preventing repeat transgressions? (2) After soaking everything with the spray, when is the best time to launder – immediately or after the spray has soaked in & dried? Please respond as soon as possible! Thanks for any help!

The first solution most people try is a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. Mix a cup of white vinegar, two tablespoons of baking soda, and a cup of warm water then apply it to the stain while the whole mixture is still bubbling.
My dog took a long time to potty train – almost 9 months! I took her to training school, but you could consider bringing a dog trainer into your home to provide individualized attention and training. Also, if you’re not dealing well with chemical carpet cleaners, you could consider a natural-based product. But it’s always recommended to test a carpet cleaning product on an area that’s not visible to make sure it works with your carpet and doesn’t discolor or damage it. Good luck!

Someone please help! We moved into our house at the end of November and we have 1 cat. The previous owners had cats over the years, as well. We noticed that anytime the basement got damp (our sewer backed up in winter and now with springtime thaw and rain~basement leaks a little bit) that the smell of cat urine was overwhelming. Under our stairs was a space that was semi-boarded up, so I took the boards down and found about 50+ piles of cat poop that was certainly OLD and white, as well as lots of dirt (?), rotted wood, etc…bought a black light and yes, it is all cat urine under there too. I then scanned the entire basement and there is cat pee EVERYWHERE!!! I don’t know what to do or where to start, since this is not a small, localized area. Call a haz-mat team? I know professional services can be expensive. Please help!! Oh, and the walls are old fieldstone and the floor is rough and bumpy cement. Thanks in advance!
I have 2 adult dogs and one just had a litter of 10 puppies, I have had to tear up the carpets in my home 3 times. I have only a center carpet left and now the smell of dog urine is back and I am done throwing out carpet. Please help to rid the smell and maybe some way to deture them from using the same spots all the time
Elaine, baking soda will help to absorb and neutralize some of the odors, but it won’t be as effective as an enzymatic cleaner. As for laundering, I would use the spray/enzyme cleaner directly in your washing machine and spray down the pieces you can’t launder.
