Well I had the perfect opportunity to see what’s really what is going on as I have a new”ish” rug in one room(only about 5 months old) and another that is quite old and even matted down in areas that are extremely high traffic. Annnd did I mention that we have a plethora of pets (angora cat aka fur factory, Yorkie, MaltiPoo, Standard Poodle, Golden Doodle, Golden Retreiver and Labradoodle, and no, I am not an “animal Hoarder”, just live on a mini farm and have 7 kids who each have a pet!) and their accompanying fur/hairs embedded over time in the old rug, while the newer rug, not so much …..
Thank you so much for this recipe. I used the vinegar and baking soda mixture to remove urine stains and strong odors from my son’s carpeted room. It worked wonders! Both our puppy and our 2 year old are potty training and have peed on his floor several times a week. I made this concoction today (had to half it due to the size of my spray bottle), and I added 4 drops of lavender essential oil too. It worked like a dream. There’s a hint of lavender smell in his room and nothing else.
Try an enzymatic cleaner to start. Wet the area with cool distilled water, pouring a small amount around the perimeter of the stain, moving from the outside of the stain toward the center. Spray an enzymatic cleaner on the wet spot, and allow it to sit overnight. If your carpet is wool, make sure you’re using a wool-safe cleaner.
I did my movie theater in black because it was the only black I could find. I found out very quickly that almost any kind of stain can be scrubbed out and since it has a rubber backing the stain doesn’t soak through. There is no padding, just rubber on the back of the carpet. Double sided tape holds it down and installation is really easy. The weiner dog took to using my theater as a bathroom, and I didn’t realize it for over a week. Needless to say I was very angry. It came right up and never smelled again. 6 years of slumber parties with kids, me drinking too much, and being used as a base of construction when I was tearing out the bathroom didn’t even phase the carpet. My wife even spilled a 5 gallon bucket of red paint on it once and then tried to be helpful by drying it up while I was at work. That came up too.
Your first line of defense in making sure that there is no permanent damage is the following: immediately blot as much as possible without rubbing it into the carpeting. Then spray it with a pet targeted shampoo. Do not rub this in either.
Yikes! I once had a foster that someone had fed a very bright red biscuit to…needless to say, I feel your pain. You can try just making a plain baking soda paste with some warm water, gently rubbing it into the stain (after any solids are gone and all traces liquid soaked up) and letting it sit for 15 minutes or longer, then follow with the vinegar rinse. If you haven’t try the above methods as well. I have found with throw up that it’s easy to overlook the fluid part and not soak it all up, which can really contribute to the stain, so I do whatever I have to to absorb it all before doing anything. Is it possible to switch your cats food at all? Are they throwing up directly after meals? If it’s right after meals, kitty may be gulping their food. They could also have issues with hairballs that cause vomiting. Well there’s quite a few reason they throw up really, but either way, I hope this helped some.
I bought this awesome machine on 8-14-2017 I absolutely love it , works super well on the high traffic areas hallways and the whole carpet for that matter , I like the fact that it keeps the water pretty hot I was looking for a carpet cleaner to clean my carpets they were pretty dirty and not cleaned for 2 years and it made them look new after I was done its easy to setup and use I love the attachments and its easy to drain the waste water tank and replace it back where it goes the machine is not heavy for me and it is easy to push and its not as loud as many other machines I have had in the past and the price was in my budget I got it on sale at local Walmart for $172.22 so I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a great carpet cleaner
As for rented apartments.. mmm keep cleaning.. or ask your landlord if you can replace the carpet with something else. Its in their interests to say yes really because if it smells of pee when you move out, though they will take your deposit, they still have to get a replacement put in..
Yes, the product is safe to use on wood and tile. We recommend you try it in a small area first to check ease of removal first. Surfaces with tiny cracks and crevasses or a texture can be more difficult to remove the product from.
Pregnant women have a higher risk than others for UTIs, which increases their chances of having ammonia-smelling urine. One report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finds up to 8 percent of pregnant women experience UTIs.
Keep in mind that carpet cleaners are noisy; some are so loud that we recommend wearing hearing protection. And don’t buy by brand name alone. In our tests, we found big differences from one model to another. For example, Bissell holds both the top and bottom spots in our ratings.
I took in two street cats in 2006. They are excellent in grooming themselves and didn’t need any litter box training. One of the cats has a poop smell on his scruff while the other does not. I thought it may have been a temporary thing, but it is still very much there. Is there a natural way I can get rid of this odor, especially since it is directly located on cat’s scruff area? Thanks!
Use only 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. Do not use Hydrogen Peroxide that is higher in concentrate than 3%  Bleaching may occur on some carpets with a stronger solution. Read the label on the Hydrogen Peroxide carefully. The label will state the strength.

This spot cleaning unit fits away quite easily, and you’ll find that you can store it just about anywhere. Small cleaning closet? You’ll be good. You’ll have to put in the work, the bristles aren’t exactly fantastic and it’s not the best option for pet hair, but for some people, it will be the perfect fit.

3. Works very well at stain removal using just the beater bar/floor tool and no attachment/hand held for tough foot traffic stains. I have not used it to remove set in pet stains so far as I use a “cat urine” eliminator “Get Serious” to remove the cat urine smell and it also removes the stains. I haven’t tried to remove old urine stains yet with it since I have none after having used GET SERIOUS. It does remove yellowed spots where I have allowed the cat urine to set for long periods (because it was behind a piece of furniture that only gets moved once a month when we move it to vac under it), but a month is hardly time to judge a yellow urine stain as “set in”. I have removed brown rust colored stains that the last professional carpet shampooer company “brought up” (Funny, they were in the middle of an open room and at the base of our stairs where no stain was prior to their coming and the stain wasn’t there until we refused for the umpteenth time their attempt to up-sell us on worthless products!!) and I had previously been unable to get that stain out using my Little Green Machine without it coming back up to the surface after a few weeks. I have only had this machine two weeks and have used it on the room 3 times in order to do a deep thorough clean and also to try and get some pet hair out. I have used it in “spots”, too but only a total room clean 3 times.
Urine that is normal and healthy shouldn’t have a strong smell. However, sometimes you may find it does have a strong odor or that it smells of ammonia. Sometimes, it could even smell very sweet. All of these could be symptoms of an underlying medical condition that needs treating.1
I have been removing pet urine and human urine professionally for 27 years with industrial strength hydrogen peroxide. we use 30% H202. you can buy 20 volume or 40 volume clear developer from a beauty supply co. this is peroxide used in bleaching hair. or buy strong peroxide from a pool store. only use on synthetic fibers, saturate carpet and pad, let dry 24 hrs. do not touch with skin til dry, shoes ok. keep pets off spot til dry. if you touch chemical wash immediately, rinse eyes for 15 minutes if contaminated, skin turns white and burns for 15 minutes after washing. the oxygen radicals will neutralize the urea, the odor, and kill the bacteria. it does not need to be rinsed. also works on red wine, blood, coffee, and mold. this is a trade secret. use enough strong peroxide it works every time.
I hope that you have found this article useful and now know how to remove the odor of dog urine from your carpets and eliminate the evidence of those little accidents that are bound to happen from time to time! I use only ingredients from my store cupboard and have never found it necessary to use hydrogen peroxide.
CR’s take: This Hoover performs at two extremes. It gets the poorest marks for cleaning of all the carpet cleaners in our tests but one of the best scores for leaving behind a dry carpet, an Excellent. It does have some nice convenience features, such as separate tanks for clean and dirty water, a 100-inch hose, a carrying handle, and brush attachments. Unfortunately, features don’t make up for poor performance.
I adopted a puppy and he decided to pee on the top of my plush couch, I have tried and tried to get the pee and smell out. But nothing seems to be working and I don’t know what else to do, I have tried Pirey multi purpose cleaner and I have tried Woolite pet urine eliminator. Aside from trying warm soap and water to try and clean it, I am getting married in September and would really like to get this taken care of before then. I don’t want my guests coming over to my home with a couch, that smells like my dog has made it his personal potty and I haven’t tried to fix it. I don’t know what else to do about the issue so if, anyone has anything that will do the job please help me.
It differs form the BISSELL Big Green in that it has a smaller tank size, and it does not seem to deep clean as powerfully as the Big Green. Its advantage over the Big Green lies in the pure focus on pets, with the pet hair collector, and also its smaller size and the lower price.
If you used paper towels in your poultices, be sure to seal them in a garbage bag and get rid of them as soon as possible, so that your pet doesn’t try urinating on them, or digging them out of the garbage.
The difference between them lies in the functions. The DeepClean Premier lacks the stain trapper tools and the Cleanshot trigger technology of the Deluxe, which means that the Deluxe version handles the toughest pet stains better than the Premier version.
I have a dog door in my house. Although my dogs use it regularly, one of my dogs is afraid to go out when it is raining heavily, and has peed on the carpet a few times at night without my knowledge. I didn’t know about it until it had dried. Please don’t judge. Nobody wants their pet to pee in the house. It’s so frustrating and embarrassing.
Certain foods or supplements too may cause urine to smell. For instance, asparagus is a known offender that doesn’t just cause urine to take on a greenish tinge, but also causes pee to smell bad. Other strong smelling foods like garlic or beer and even coffee too may have this effect.16 Besides such foods, Vitamin B6 supplements too can cause urine to smell funny as the body expels any excess via the urine.17
(Explanation. Dish Soap or Dishwashing Detergent? Different countries call it different names. It is what you use to wash dishes in your sink. For example, Dawn, Palmolive, Fairy etc. Do not use Detergent that you put in your dishwasher)
I would definitely recommend a machine that has this ‘drying’ action as the carpets are nearly dry to walk on right afterwards – here in the UK this is especially appreciated during winter months when it’s not ideal if you have to have the windows open to help dry the carpet!

I’ve used the vinegar/water cleaner, followed by hydrogen peroxide/baking soda procedure for the last several years. We have three labs, and had two cats (one of whom is no longer with us). The process worked well for stains AND odor. Actually, doing the carpet AGAIN as we speak!
Rarely review anything but I had to for this product. First let me say that I have a graveyard of at least 100 cat urine neutralizer products… none of them have worked for me. This product, however, is AMAZING! I have two cats and they occasionally pee outside their litter box. Many covers have been destroyed and thrown away. I wish I had discovered this product sooner. I put the stained covers in the washer machine first with vinegar and let them soak for a few hours. Then I put them through the rinse cycle 2-3 times. After that I soaked them with this product overnight (I’m sure it doesn’t have to be that long, I just wanted to make sure the fabric soaked it up) and then rinsed and dried the covers. I smell NOTHING, the covers do NOT smell like urine and the product does not leave an after scent. The only problem I had was that the bottle is sooooooo small, but it is my fault for not noticing the size before buying. I will be purchasing this product again. I am so happy to finally find something that works!
