4. Cord is about 12″ too short. Seriously. What size room do they do in the test rooms? Dyson seems to be the only one who thinks you need some cordage to use their product, I am guessing. I think that would be the number one complaint of everyone who owns this cleaner. I know it was the one that I read the most about. In order to do my family room, I have to stop and unplug it one time, so is it a big deal? Again, not to me because I usually have to dump the tank by that time, but would it be a big deal to you? I am not sure of the actual length of the cord, you should just know to expect a short cord. I am sure it has something to do with how you have to wrap the cord vs. how large of a hook they can put on there, or already burgeoning weight of the cleaner, not to add more cord, but again, I am no expert on these things.
Next weekend, I am tackling the stairs… Will amend the review to reflect the “stair” tool as well as the “hard floor” tool that I ordered from Bissell for use on my ceramic tile floor which should come next week as well. 🙂
Get into a regular cleaning routine. Cleaning can be a drag, but the best way to stop your home from smelling like your pets is to clean regularly and stay on top of messes. A good cleaning routine will include regular vacuuming, floor washing, laundry, and dusting. For the best results:[14]
Also, try to remove your shoes at the door to avoid bringing into the home the smells that cue “OK to pee here” response. I found that my dogs had more accidents right after professional steam cleaning because the padding released additional urine smell, again the cue. We went with hardwood and area rugs and close the doors to bedrooms that still have carpet. Crate a night. Happy life.

The only possible case when you can use the iodine to remove the urine smell is the case when you have a dark carpet. Prepare weak solution of the iodine (15 drops of iodine should be diluted in 1 liter of water). The diluted iodine is applied on the spot for 5-7 minutes. After that you should rinse the carpet with the textile soaked in warm water.
Start off with feeding a good brand of food from a pet store, and not a commercially advertised cheap product from grocery stores(cheap ones are brightly colored and high in cheap fillers which are dangerous for your pet and could, lead to health problems one day), or feed raw (best solution) after that all of the things listed in this will work for smell/stain remover. I have used it for both three cats and three dogs ad works wonders.

I took in two street cats in 2006. They are excellent in grooming themselves and didn’t need any litter box training. One of the cats has a poop smell on his scruff while the other does not. I thought it may have been a temporary thing, but it is still very much there. Is there a natural way I can get rid of this odor, especially since it is directly located on cat’s scruff area? Thanks!
If you need to get the smell of dog urine out of your carpets, spray or pour a mixture of one part vinegar and one part water onto the carpet where the urine is. Let the vinegar soak for at least 10 minutes, then blot up the solution with a sponge or paper towel and let it begin to air dry. When the vinegar is almost dry, sprinkle baking soda onto the wet spot on the carpet and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then vacuum it away.
Important: Bleach is very dangerous for our skin. During the whole process of preparation and applying the bleach use rubber gloves in order not to harm your skin. It is also recommended to apply some greasy hand cream on the hands before wearing gloves.
Clean up any pet urine that’s still wet. If the urine dries, it stains the carpet and increases bacteria growth. To best remove the stain, place a layer of several paper towels over the wet area of the carpet. Walk on the paper towels so that they absorb as much of the pet pee as possible. Removing wet urine reduces urine smell.

We bathe our dogs weekly and to limit the dry skin that frequent shampooing/bathing causes, we alternate the various shampoos with just a water rinse/bath and a natural conditioner so as not to strip their skin of all their natural oils as that is what the shampoos do.
Nature’s Miracle, which can be bought at most large pet stores—at some in gallon containers with a battery-operated sprayer, although that’s not necessary. We have lived with cats for decades, and this is the only material that is always successful in removing odors. We have not had real problems with our cats, but all you need is one to make a house smell terrible. Nature’s Miracle also works well in the washing machine—just add a bit in the pre-rinse.
I would personally not use the wood pen. If it was the source of the odor, you’d probably know pretty quick by giving it a sniff. Even if it’s not, any scent that sinks into will encourage him to go there again. I recommend a commercial puppy pen (plastic or metal) or the use of a kennel/crate-at least until he’s learned he can’t potty everywhere. Much easier to clean as well. I don’t know how old he is, but if he’s quite young, he truly cannot physically control it past a certain point, so if you have to leave for long periods during the day I place a blanket or towel on one side of the pen and a potty pad on the other so they can differentiate where they potty from where they hang out. I know-people say if the area is small enough they won’t go potty where they sleep. This is not true. Plenty will, and then they traipse in it! So potty pads come in handy for keeping them out of the mess and tracking it around as well.
1) You might discolor your carpet – baking soda & vinegar. Think about it. It’s a paste that can interact with the chemistry of the carpet. Don’t believe me? Start reading through the comments. There are some people who say it works, but do you want to be one of the readers who was left with ruined carpet?
I have a dog door in my house. Although my dogs use it regularly, one of my dogs is afraid to go out when it is raining heavily, and has peed on the carpet a few times at night without my knowledge. I didn’t know about it until it had dried. Please don’t judge. Nobody wants their pet to pee in the house. It’s so frustrating and embarrassing.
If the vinegar mixture is not working, you need to have a professional come out to clean. The problem is not the carpet, it is the padding underneath the carpet. If a spill or accident is not blotted up immediately, it soaks through the carpet and into the pad. When you spot clean, it does not clean down to the pad. The carpet may smell nice & look good, but if it gets wet or warm enough then the stuff left in the pad will come back up into the carpet. You really need to call a professional carpet cleaner with a truck mounted unit to come clean it. Their systems use very hot water & have a strong suction unit. They can get deep down to the pad & then extract all that water so it does not deteriorate the backing on your carpet.
This thing will clean your carpet – no doubt about that – especially if you use the Bissell chemicals with it – but some really annoying things that you find out while you’re using it. (1) The solution tank cannot stand up by itself as it has no flat side on the opposite side of the inlet. You cannot put the tank down after putting any liquid in it as it will spill. Ya, really. (2) 1 hole on the plastic body is too small for the screw. You can try to tighten it but you risk cracking the plastic housing or stripping the screw head or both. (3) It should take nothing to add a mechanism that lifts up the brushes off the floor when using the attachments. I wound up with a burn spot on my carpet due to the brushes continuously hitting the same spot for about 10 minutes while cleaning the stairs. (4) The water is supposed to be heated, but I checked it with my hand and could not tell the difference from when I first put it in. This is an OK machine that could be a terrific machine with just a couple of tweaks.
I have a cat who peed on his bed, and secretly in both carriers – everything comes apart so I have been running them through the washing machine but with no success smell-wise. Is there a way to turn one of these mixes into a soak or add to the laundry machine?
Using small piece of soap and a bit of water make a cleaning soapy liquid. The resulting soapy liquid is applied on the smelling surface. Wait for approximately 10 minutes. With the wet sponge remove the remaining soap and wash the spot.
Bubba’s calls their enzyme cleaner “the pet stain and odor TERMINATOR” because it destroys stubborn urine smells for good. It eats away urine bacteria to prevent re-marking. You can spot-treat with Bubba’s, or add it to a load of laundry to wash dog bets and blankets stained with pee.
Iodine is also used when you have a situation with dog pee smell on the wooden surfaces. The solution is prepared in the same way. If the odor remains after all your attempts maybe you should consider contacting drycleaner or cleaning professionals. Sometimes old pee smell is very difficult to remove.
And what you can do is, and it goes pretty quickly. You can get squeegees wider than this, this is only eight inches wide. You can get a wider one if you have a larger room. And you see it just pulls the fur right out of the deep fibers of the carpet.
It shouldn’t- the kind you get at the stores is usually 3% dilute. Professional carpet cleaners usually use it at around 10%. Just make sure to always test for color fastness no matter what you decide to try 🙂
Rarely review anything but I had to for this product. First let me say that I have a graveyard of at least 100 cat urine neutralizer products… none of them have worked for me. This product, however, is AMAZING! I have two cats and they occasionally pee outside their litter box. Many covers have been destroyed and thrown away. I wish I had discovered this product sooner. I put the stained covers in the washer machine first with vinegar and let them soak for a few hours. Then I put them through the rinse cycle 2-3 times. After that I soaked them with this product overnight (I’m sure it doesn’t have to be that long, I just wanted to make sure the fabric soaked it up) and then rinsed and dried the covers. I smell NOTHING, the covers do NOT smell like urine and the product does not leave an after scent. The only problem I had was that the bottle is sooooooo small, but it is my fault for not noticing the size before buying. I will be purchasing this product again. I am so happy to finally find something that works!
If ammonia-smelling urine occurs every once in a while, it is rarely a reason for concern. However, if ammonia odor is accompanied by pain or symptoms of infection, including fever, it is time to see a doctor.
If you’re a woman from ancient Rome and your urine smells like roses, you’ve probably been drinking turpentine. This is a high price to pay to woo your suitor with pleasant-smelling pee, as turpentine may kill you! Short of drinking turpentine, there are many common substances that may alter the way your urine smells, which is why it’s helpful to know what’s normal. Urine reflects all of the inner workings of your body and contains a wide variety of compounds and metabolic by-products. Some dogs can actually “smell cancer” in human urine6.
Once the paper towel becomes somewhat dry (instead of “drenched”), spray on vinegar and water. Place another clean paper towel on top, then get a heavy object such as a book or a suitcase (depending on how big the pee was!) and lay it over the towel; let set to absorb for 1/2 hour or so. Then you can spray on hydrogen peroxide and wipe with a clean wet rag. Set the book on the spot again and let set another 1/2 hour. You can sprinkle baking soda on later once you think the spot is pretty removed. SOMETIMES YOU MUST REPEAT THIS APPLICATION. You can also use carpet freshener too.

Fortunately, the budget cost doesn’t seem to have had too much of a hit to its efficacy. This stuff works. You’ll be able to handle most stains and odors simply, just spray it down, give it some time to work, and then finish the job.

The whole house has a faint kennel smell, even the morning after I wash all the throw rugs and mop all the floors (he’s too small to be marking furniture yet, so that’s not it) and her room positively reeks, but I can see no signs of missed accidents. His pen is made from old pallets, but it is just a two sided frame, and he is only in it when we are gone, so even if he has managed to pee on it, it shouldn’t smell THAT strongly, should it? If it could, can I fix it, or do I need to rebuild it with new, painted or varnished wood? What can I do?! I love cats, but won’t have them inside because I simply can’t stand that smell, so this is driving me crazy, like, no matter what I do, my house seems dirty! Help!!
Same here. My sweet 100 lb Boxer has cancer and hip dysplasia. I told my husband we will NOT get another dog (or inside animal) and we will replace the carpeting when she passes. Unfortunately, we still have to deal with grandbaby oopsies.
Huge fan of Genesis 950 for removing pet stains. I have an older dog who struggles to get outside. Because of this, I have had issues with odor more so than the visible staining. The carpet is kind of a cream color so you can’t always see the stains, or tell when they are there, but you can smell it after the dog has gone. The 950 has been the only thing to not just neutralize the odors, but also deodorize them. I can’t always stop the dog from going there, but I can at least get rid of the smell when it happens.
As dog owners, we’ve all been there. You got delayed at the office or running errands, and your dog couldn’t hold it any longer. Of course, he picked the perfect place on the carpet to pee. Even worse, your pet has chosen a regular spot to relieve himself in your home because you haven’t been able to completely eliminate the smell.
Once you have got the area as dry as you can, liberally sprinkle on ordinary baking soda, again working it into the fibers of the carpet with your fingertips (don’t forget the rubber gloves!), or an old, soft toothbrush.

I have found hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dishsoap to work so well that the cats don’t go back to the same place twice, or sniff at places they’ve peed after treatment: a cat’s nose is the gold standard for judging whether cat pee smell is gone or not. Getting it to smell clean to a human nose is only half the battle if you don’t want repeat toilet visits to your carpet or furniture.
Urine that is normal and healthy shouldn’t have a strong smell. However, sometimes you may find it does have a strong odor or that it smells of ammonia. Sometimes, it could even smell very sweet. All of these could be symptoms of an underlying medical condition that needs treating.1

If the accident just happened quickly absorb it from the carpet with toilet paper…keep rolling up paper and stepping on it over the accident until it’s dry. Re wet the stain with febreeze and again lift it up with toilet paper. Then pour baking soda over the spot…let it dry overnight. You will see the urine comes up into the baking soda…why? I have no idea…when it’s dry..scrape it up ( I use the back of the dustpan brush) sweep it up into a dustpan and thoroughly vacuum. Voila..stink and stain gone. If it’s old..this will not work.
Add in 4 heaping tablespoons of baking soda, adding it in smaller amounts if it threatens to fizz over (and it really does fizz!) Pour into a spray bottle and thoroughly spray the area. Let sit for 5 minutes, then gently rub and blot up with a soft cloth. You can also simply pour some straight from the bowl over the stain if you don’t have a spray bottle.
Yikes! I once had a foster that someone had fed a very bright red biscuit to…needless to say, I feel your pain. You can try just making a plain baking soda paste with some warm water, gently rubbing it into the stain (after any solids are gone and all traces liquid soaked up) and letting it sit for 15 minutes or longer, then follow with the vinegar rinse. If you haven’t try the above methods as well. I have found with throw up that it’s easy to overlook the fluid part and not soak it all up, which can really contribute to the stain, so I do whatever I have to to absorb it all before doing anything. Is it possible to switch your cats food at all? Are they throwing up directly after meals? If it’s right after meals, kitty may be gulping their food. They could also have issues with hairballs that cause vomiting. Well there’s quite a few reason they throw up really, but either way, I hope this helped some.
For many pet owners, urine is the enemy, the smell just never comes out! Even though it’s messy, I would almost rather have my dogs have diarrhea in the house than pee on the floor. The stink of urine lingers and just will NOT go away. Diarrhea is awful, but a good scrubbing later, I can pretend it never happened.
