Basically pink liquid is used usually but in case of long-standing stains of dog’s urine or very old stains we should prepare dark or almost black mixture of the potassium permanganate (we just add more of the crystals in the warm water).
I used this recipe for Dog Urine Removal. I have four dogs and it worked! I couldn’t believe it…smell was gone and it didn’t smell odd like it does with store purchased products…thank you very much. Read all Testimonials

Keep your pet well-groomed. A well groomed pet not only smells good, but looks good, too. Regularly bathe your pet, clip their nails, and brush their teeth. Keeping up with regular grooming can drastically improve the smell of your house, because fur, dirty nails, and even bad breath can make your house stink.
Orange: When your pee is the color of a citrus-flavored soft drink, it’s probably because of meds like high-dose vitamin B2, the UTI drug phenazopyridine, or the antibiotic isoniazid. Depending on the color, it could also be a sign that you’re dehydrated or that there’s a problem with your liver or bile duct. You should ask your doctor about it.
You need to soak the affected area thoroughly, and allow the solution a long time to dry, whether you have carpet, wood floors, or masonry flooring. No fans or open windows are needed here. In fact, it’s a good idea to place a piece of cardboard over the affected area to slow down evaporation. The solution works to eat away at the natural enzymes that are causing the odor in the first place, and they need time to do their work. If after all this, you still have pet odor problems, you’re going to need to take more drastic measures. With carpeting, you’ll probably need to replace it. And if the pet urine has made it into the subfloor, you may have to replace that as well. The same goes for wood flooring. It can be a timely, and costly, project. But when compared to living with the smell of pet urine, it’s often worth the trouble.
I am often contacted by readers of my articles. This is the story of one reader, Sophia. She told me about her experience with carpets that smelled of dog urine in a house that her family has recently moved into.
Pregnant women have a higher risk than others for UTIs, which increases their chances of having ammonia-smelling urine. One report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finds up to 8 percent of pregnant women experience UTIs.
Urine that contains a lot of water and few waste products has little to no odor. If urine becomes highly concentrated — a high level of waste products with little water — your urine may have a strong ammonia odor.
I’m interested in the intersection between design and technology—whether for drywall or robotic vacuums—and how the resulting combination affects consumers. I’ve written about consumer advocacy issues for publications like The Atlantic, PC Magazine, and Popular Science, and now I’m happy to be tackling the topic for CR. The leading store-bought products made for removing the stain and smell of pet urine from carpets use the power of enzymes to do the work and are non-toxic for pets. Enzymes are proteins that help kick off natural chemical reactions at the molecular level, and the enzymes in pet carpet care products attach themselves to the molecules that make up the urine and bacteria that feed on it (producing the foul odors) and catalyze their breakdown.
To remove pet urine from carpet, start by absorbing as much of the urine as possible using damp towels and something heavy, like cans of food or a book, to weigh them down. Once the towels have soaked up most of the urine, re-wet the spot with water and spay it with an enzyme cleaner. Then, cover the spot with another damp towel and weigh it down again to soak up the cleaner. Allow it to sit overnight, then discard or thoroughly wash the towels so your pet can’t smell any remaining urine.
Some cleaning products work better than others depending on the type of carpet you have, such as natural versus synthetic fibers. Read the label on these products to find the one that can best remove dog or pet urine odor from carpet.
Step 1: Create a vinegar cleaning solution consisting of one part white vinegar to one part water. Vinegar neutralizes the ammonia smell of urine without fading carpet fibers, making it a good choice for cleaning and protecting your carpet.
Products that use more traditional methods of cleaning with solvents (to dissolve stains) and surfactants (surface active agents that “wet” the carpet) may not be as effective and can actually deactivate enzymatic cleaners. Keep an eye on the ingredient panel for chlorine, ammonia and sodium lauryl sulfate, as these can be harmful to pets (and people, too). If the product’s instructions direct you to keep pets and children away from the product after it has been applied, you might want to think twice about using it in your home.
Sally grew up in a feline-only home, but cat allergies in her early 20’s made it an easy transition to dog ownership. And she couldn’t be happier with her canine shadow, who’s been at her side (literally) for years. No longer a cat person for obvious reasons, Sally is now a true bone-ified dog lover.
Amber More concentrated than orange so severe dehydration related to intense exercise or heat; excess caffeine or salt; hematuria; decreased urine production (oliguria or anuria); metabolic problem; pituitary problem (ADH, or antidiuretic hormone) Consult your physician if problem persists despite adequate hydration
Full sized cleaners can be something of a bear to handle. This makes them less ideal for those who aren’t quite as physically fit and also makes them harder to use in particularly tight environments. For a small apartment, inhabited by a smaller person, it doesn’t make sense and instead, you’ll want to focus on more pet oriented applications.
Soak up as much of the urine as possible: Place a thick layer of paper towels on the wet spot, and cover that with a thick layer of newspaper. If possible, put newspaper under the soiled area as well. Stand on this padding for about a minute, and repeat until the area is barely damp.
I had this same problem with my elderly miniature poodle. The only thing that has worked is a mild sedative, Acepromazine, at bedtime and putting a diaper on her. I might have to keep a diaper on her 24/7 because even though I watch her almost continually she still urinates in the house occasionally. The night time solution came after consultation with her vet. I never tried putting her in a crate, beside the bed at night, this might work. Since your dog is young as compared to my 15 year old dog, I would try the crate thing first. Good luck!
Nature’s Miracle is one of the most popular pet cleaning products out there. The advanced formula attacks set-in pet stains, removes pet pheromones, and destroys odors on contact to prevent re-soiling. Best of all, you can use it on any surface.
Start off by taking all of the furniture apart – pillows, blankets and the like – and vacuuming everything thoroughly. If the sofa and chairs have removable slipcovers or cushion covers, take those off for washing (details later). Get into the crevices of the furniture as deep as possible to remove all the hair, and flip the bed mattress to get both sides. On the floors, make sure to get under all of the furniture and in the corners, where “hair bunnies” tend to gather.
If you do not have any spray bottles you can do the same procedure using the towel or piece of textile. If we want to achieve the best possible result we should make sure that the spot will get completely dry. When you will be sure that the spot is completely dry you can carry on and wash it with warm water and detergent.
Add in 4 heaping tablespoons of baking soda, adding it in smaller amounts if it threatens to fizz over (and it really does fizz!) Pour into a spray bottle and thoroughly spray the area. Let sit for 5 minutes, then gently rub and blot up with a soft cloth. You can also simply pour some straight from the bowl over the stain if you don’t have a spray bottle.
CR’s take: For carpet cleaners, this is where it gets tricky: Both of the higher-performing Bissell models on this list have “pet” in their names. This one does, too, but that’s where the similarity ends. Unlike the two Bissells covered above, the Deep Clean Deluxe Pet is only so-so at cleaning and worse than that at leaving a dry carpet behind, scoring a Poor. It’s also several pounds heavier when full of solution—36 pounds, so it can be a bit unwieldy. The ironic part? It costs more than our two top Bissell picks, proving that the price-quality relationship doesn’t always bear out.

If I had any doubts whatsoever about this spray, they were gone after the memory foam mattress incident. I love my memory foam mattresses so when my old one had a huge hole eaten out of it by one of my dogs, I chopped it up and made dog beds. Inevitably, someone pee’d on it and I pulled out my trusty bottle of SUN dilute. I had to use a lot because of the foam, the pee went into the foam, every single layer. So I opened the bottle and slowly poured the SUN over the pee spot. I could actually SEE the pee changing colors!!!! Where the pee was in the foam you could see it had stained the foam but the SUN changed it back, so this truly convinced me that something in this takes pee out.

Just purchased this yesterday and used it last night. I have a golden retriever and thankfully he doesn’t have accidents in the house.. However- he did recently throw up and when I cleaned it up i realized how dirty my carpets were. After using this, my carpets look brand new! I’m attaching a photo of the progress as well as one from the throw up stain before and after. Only downside I can think of is that the carpets were still a little damp the next morning. That could be our fault though. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a carpet cleaner.
We have a little female Sheltie that has had repeated urinary infections therefore she has had those accidents we’ve been reading about. If you watch your dog while outside and they try to pee (males???) and nothing comes out, this may be a clue that they have some irritation. Get to the vet. Cleaning their bottoms occasionally with a baby wipe may keep the bacteria in-check.
If you notice you suddenly have to pee more often than usual, though, it could be a sign of a health problem such as a UTI, kidney disease, diabetes, an enlarged prostate in men, vaginitis in women, or a problem with the wall of your bladder called interstitial cystitis.
