Some IQAir air purifiers are similar to this. Using a blend of activated carbon and oxidizing elements, the carbon filters in the IQAir HealthPro Plus and MultiGas GC air purifiers can adsord and oxidize odors, eliminating them from your indoor air. While these filters aren’t typically as loaded with carbon as many of the Austin Air or AirPura models, the specialized carbon blend typically targets a broader range of odors and chemical vapor molecules.
“Your best defense as soon as you see an accident is to blot as much as you can with towels,” he said. “Then, put a few drops of green dish detergent and a little water on the area, place a towel over it and step on it so it absorbs as much as possible.”
Thank you so much for this recipe. I used the vinegar and baking soda mixture to remove urine stains and strong odors from my son’s carpeted room. It worked wonders! Both our puppy and our 2 year old are potty training and have peed on his floor several times a week. I made this concoction today (had to half it due to the size of my spray bottle), and I added 4 drops of lavender essential oil too. It worked like a dream. There’s a hint of lavender smell in his room and nothing else.
Clean furniture. Pet smells love to hide in furniture. Your cat’s special chair may be host to all sorts of irksome smells. The type of furniture will dictate the best cleaning method, but you should always check the care labels before cleaning to make sure the piece isn’t dry clean only. Care labels marked with an S mean don’t clean with water, and X means dry clean only.
Clean the garbage can. Before putting a fresh bag into the empty garbage can, give the can itself a good cleaning to remove any spills or particles that could cause lingering smells. To clean the garbage can:[7]
Well, my puppy started pottying on my new carpet after a few months, for some reason. I clean the spots by first soaking it all up with paper towels, then using OUT. I also used my carpet cleaner machine. However, I went back with the black light and the spots are still showing up just as bright. I’m sick. What to do?

Always look for products that are safe for your dog, and better yet, purchase products made with as many natural ingredients as possible.
Understanding a little about the behavior and physiological capabilities of your pet helps in understanding why enzymatic cleaners are so useful for removing pet stains. Dogs and cats have a much more highly developed sense of smell than humans do and can detect odors that we cannot smell. I am stressed out about about my carpet, dog urine is becoming a NIGHTMARE. I take my 1 1/2 yr old dog out at least 5 times a day, she doesn’t have accidents during day, overnight is the problem, I know how to fix her from urinating, she now sleeps in her crate but my problem I just can’t seem to figure out is how to remove old stains & odor from carpet??? I have tried shout urine destroyer solution, baking soda, vintages/water mixture, bissell pet urine/odor cleaning solution, I always made sure to blot the urine spot w/ paper towels to remove most of the wetness, added the solution after soaking up but NOTHING I’ve tried works, I bought a Hoover carpet cleaner in hopes it would do the job but just seems like the urine smell had gotten stronger. I feel hopeless, i live in apartment & it’s stressing me out even more because I don’t want to lose my security deposit, so I’m DESPERATE for any advice.
Some cleaning products work better than others depending on the type of carpet you have, such as natural versus synthetic fibers. Read the label on these products to find the one that can best remove dog or pet urine odor from carpet.
I that’s a little drastic and not fair to the dog/puppy. You don’t have to cut the sub floor out, if you do it right and there is no visible stain on carpet you can replace the area of stained padding for the sub-floor paint over affected area with kills paint, available at Walmart and lumber stores return carpet to use.
I’ve been using the vinegar/water mix for years to rid the carpet of pet odors. It’s always worked well for me. I like the baking soda suggestion and if I get in a position where V/W doesn’t work, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestions Angie’s!
Consider using ultraviolet light to explore more thoroughly. If you want to be thorough, buy a UV or fluorescent black light of a portable size. Look for a long bulb so you can cover more ground at much, preferably longer than 12 inches (30cm). Cheap bulbs with the housing included can be found at most hardware stores. Although pet stores sell the lights as well, they’re usually smaller and more expensive. They can also be purchased at a reasonable cost online, depending on how much time you have to wait around living with the odor.

The only way to get rid of urine odor is to use a product that has an active enzyme in it. Vinegar will only temporarily get rid of the odor. If the urine gets into the pad of the carpet, you’re sunk. If you replace your carpet, it may be worth while to get a pad that has the plastic cover to prevent it from getting wet. I’ve done this and am happy I spent the few extra dollars.
