2. As others have stated, if you go to dump out the waste water in the tank, you will more than likely lose some of your cleaner/clean water. The alternative to this is, go figure, don’t dump the dirty tank until it is “full”. There is a line on the tank that reads “full” when the dirty water gets up that high. I also have found that when you turn it a certain way to empty, you run less risk of emptying out your clean water/soap bladder than if you just “dump it out” in a rush. If you turn it where the “empty hole” is furthest away from you, the “clean water fill” hole is at the top, you run less risk of emptying out the good water. Also, if I wait for the sprayer/clean water to empty, then I haven’t got a problem. I also will just fill it half full. We are talking tablespoons of the clean soap that you are using by the time you fill a full tank and then use most of it. The “clean” tank only requires a few ozs. of cleaning solution, so if you know you won’t use a full tank, then don’t make a full tank. It isn’t that big of a deal to me to lose a few ozs of soap, but to some it may be.
I used this recipe for Dog Urine Removal. I have four dogs and it worked! I couldn’t believe it…smell was gone and it didn’t smell odd like it does with store purchased products…thank you very much. Read all Testimonials
urine can penetrate the face fibers, also the backing which is plastic.sometimes with a big pet it can reach down to the pad and the subfloor wood or concrete.first pull carpet off of tack strip check to see if urine has gone into the plastic or back of carpet.if you see or smell it there but not in padding or concrete then apply a enzyme treatment to it and extract the urine with a extractor.flip carpet back down onto tack strips and apply to fibers on top carpet rinse with extractor.dry carpet with high speed air mover.if the urine soaks padding remove and discard.apply enzyme to subfloor clean and extract and dry out
You can also make your own air freshener by filling a saucepan with water, citrus peels, and your favorite herbs. Bring the water to a boil and let it simmer on the stove to infuse your home with delicious smells.
First, the basics. What’s the best dog urine remover? You might be surprised to know that it’s plain old water! Below are some tips on the first steps to take to get dog urine out of carpet as soon as you find his “oops” spot(s).
You can buy washable ones on different sizes off Amazon. I did this 5 yrs ago when we got out puppies an put them by out back door. Even though they go out right before we go to to bed, theres still times one or the other will pee on it 2 or 3 times a week late at night or of im gpne to long during the day. They’re 5yrs old now. I just wash one at a time with only vinegar an air dry while I put the other down. Well worth the $$
Act quickly! If you can get to the wee whilst it is still wet, the job is so much easier. If you can remove the majority of the urine right away, bacteria do not get a hold and it is the bacteria which cause the worst of the smell, not the urine itself.
Fortunately, the budget cost doesn’t seem to have had too much of a hit to its efficacy. This stuff works. You’ll be able to handle most stains and odors simply, just spray it down, give it some time to work, and then finish the job.
An independent laboratory recently conducted multiple tests of our P.U.R.T. process to determine its effectiveness in treating pet urine odors and stains. In tests against the most common odor sources found in dog and cat urine, this study found that P.U.R.T. removes an average of 99.9% of pet urine odors from carpets. To go one step further, the study also tested Chem-Dry’s ability to eliminate the bacteria that can be found in pet urine. When used along with our HCE (Hot Carbonating Extraction) cleaning process and a sanitizer, the study found that P.U.R.T. removes an average of 99.2% of the bacteria from pet urine stains in carpets.
CR’s take: This affordable Hoover is lightweight, inexpensive, and a good choice for those who have small carpets or area rugs. When empty, this model weighs only 12 pounds, and it weighs 20 pounds when full with a gallon of water, making it easy to move around the house. Notably, this model doesn’t come with a hose, so you might not be able to clean tight areas, such as stairs, as easily, and it doesn’t have an extra carrying handle. Overall, this Hoover is very good at cleaning your carpets and leaving them dry.
This year I got a Hoover WindTunnel 2 shortly after buying my new rug, so it has always had the benefit of a superior vacuum cleaner from the get go and WOW, nary a clump of hair deposited on it at all, while the other one was “clump city”!
I have been removing pet urine and human urine professionally for 27 years with industrial strength hydrogen peroxide. we use 30% H202. you can buy 20 volume or 40 volume clear developer from a beauty supply co. this is peroxide used in bleaching hair. or buy strong peroxide from a pool store. only use on synthetic fibers, saturate carpet and pad, let dry 24 hrs. do not touch with skin til dry, shoes ok. keep pets off spot til dry. if you touch chemical wash immediately, rinse eyes for 15 minutes if contaminated, skin turns white and burns for 15 minutes after washing. the oxygen radicals will neutralize the urea, the odor, and kill the bacteria. it does not need to be rinsed. also works on red wine, blood, coffee, and mold. this is a trade secret. use enough strong peroxide it works every time.
There’s a common theme in anything which we use to handle our pets: a high cost. With Out!’s Pet Stain and Odor Remover you might just be able to handle the problem without making a super serious investment.
The Rug Doctor is made to handle those high traffic areas that can be a pain to take care of. Got a lot of dogs and made the mistake of going with carpets? You’re handled here, with superior suction, antimicrobial brushes and a “Super Boost” spray function that lets you really slam those areas where things have turned into a mess.
Clean the carpets. Spot cleaning stains will help remove smells from specific areas, but you may have a bunch of different smells over different areas of the carpet. Tackle smells all over the house with a thorough carpet cleaning. This might take time, but be patient. A smell-free house is worth the effort. You can either use a powder or wet shampoo to clean your carpets:
you said that you are treating your dog with Crananidin and Cosequin every other day. And that “Nutramax pharm. makes the products. Is this a mail order pharm. And did your vet come up with this solution on taking this or did you research on the internet.
I have a 25 yr old satillo tile with concrete grout floor. I have always had a variety of animals in my home and for some reason this has been the place where the accidents happen. I have tried all kinds of things that appear to work but then the smell comes back. Especially in the damp winter time. I have a 23 yr old macaw that does have some respiratory deficiency in the house so I can’t use anything that will harm him.
6. It has large wheels on the back of the machine so that when you need to move it from one place to another and you aren’t using the motor i.e. re-positioning or putting it away so that you can lean the machine back on those two wheels and move it like a dolly cart, etc. The machine is NOT self-propelled, going to the “heavy duty” con below. 🙂
Kidney disease causes chemicals in urine to become concentrated and to cause a smell resembling ammonia. Kidney dysfunction can also cause high bacteria and protein levels in the urine, which will contribute to a foul, ammonia smell.
Well, after the black light arrived, we went around the house and found white patches showing up EVERYWHERE! I read that the bright white can be from left-over carpet cleaners, that urine should be dull and yellowish. Anyhow, in our case, the black light did not help us identify urine spots, because most of the white spots did not smell like urine, and there was so much “white” that we cannot tell “yellow”. We gave up the idea of “spot-cleaning” except for one spot that I definitely smelled urine.

Another way to use vinegar and baking soda, a staple in the green cleaning arsenal, is to mix them together in a spray bottle, said green cleaning coach Erinn Morgan, author of Picture Yourself Going Green. She suggests mixing one cup of distilled white vinegar with one cup of water and two heaping tablespoons of baking soda. Shake it up, spray it on the carpet, let it sit for five or six minutes, then gently blot it up with a fresh cloth, she said. The mixture will stay potent for a few months, so you might want to mix up a batch and keep it on hand if you have a puppy.
It is important to pee when you feel the urge. Delaying urination can cause bladder overdistension — like overstretching a Slinky such that it can’t bounce back. You may habitually postpone urination if you find bathroom breaks inconvenient at work, or if you have Paruresis (also known as Shy Bladder Syndrome, Bashful Bladder, Tinkle Terror, or Pee Anxiety), the fear of urinating in the presence of others. Seven percent of the public suffers from this condition.10
Try an enzymatic cleaner to start. Wet the area with cool distilled water, pouring a small amount around the perimeter of the stain, moving from the outside of the stain toward the center. Spray an enzymatic cleaner on the wet spot, and allow it to sit overnight. If your carpet is wool, make sure you’re using a wool-safe cleaner.
Since getting my first pup, I have encountered her peeing everywhere. My solution to get odor out is to spray the spot with a bug spray, not only does it stop her from going back to the spot it also takes the odor out. Seems the bug spray is stronger than urine, the smell goes away in a couple of minutes but, stays longer enough for her to smell and leave it alone, I used Hot Shot flying insect spray. It’s harmful because the dog won’t go near it.
Find old stains. You might have a general idea of where old stains might be from the odor. If you think there might be old stains in an area, explore using a sweeping motion, gradually moving farther away from the generally smelly location. The pet urine that you’re looking for should show up as a yellow or greenish color. Try looking in the following areas:
Start off with feeding a good brand of food from a pet store, and not a commercially advertised cheap product from grocery stores(cheap ones are brightly colored and high in cheap fillers which are dangerous for your pet and could, lead to health problems one day), or feed raw (best solution) after that all of the things listed in this will work for smell/stain remover. I have used it for both three cats and three dogs ad works wonders.
As for the cons, I like many others wish it had another 5 feet of cord as I have a large open floor plan in my home. If you have more of a traditional type of home this will probably not be an issue for you as you will not need more cord length.

For many pet owners, urine is the enemy, the smell just never comes out! Even though it’s messy, I would almost rather have my dogs have diarrhea in the house than pee on the floor. The stink of urine lingers and just will NOT go away. Diarrhea is awful, but a good scrubbing later, I can pretend it never happened.
The enzymatic action of this cleaner makes short work of even crystallized urine. Keep in mind that “short work” in this instance isn’t an instant solution, but if you’ve got to deal with truly nasty build up an overnight soak can often take care of things.
Thank you so much!!!!! I am having this problem with one of my dogs. We have been using the baking soda and that dries it up. We have tried all kinds of store bought sprays that promise to work, but none of them do work. The vinegar sounds perfect ( the way you explained it makes perfect sense.) I am going to start doing it today. I just stumbled on this, Thank God for that.
