My dog had an accident in the bedroom so I pulled back the carpet cut out the underlay washed it thoroughly with normal washing detergent bleached the floorboards then laid a bin bag on the floorboards with some kitchen towels on top I placed the carpet back down and rinsed the carpet through with warm water and washing detergent replacing the towels as i went along until they were clear and the urine had gone after scrubbing and soaking up the water the smell has now gone the underlay is back down with the carpet and there is no stain or smell in sight
If the carpet is in a room you plan to utilize until the installation date, you can easily remove only the damaged area by cutting through the carpet and pad with a utility knife. To be on the safe side, extend the perimeter by at least a foot.
Tobacco smoke odors caused by people smoking cigarettes, cigars, or pipes indoors tend to permeate the entire structure. The longer a person smokes inside, the stronger the odor is and the more difficult it becomes to remove.

Unfortunately this alone did not do it so I was very glad to find a site that said to sprinkle plain baking soda, a lot, then spray it with a solution of 1/4cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide & 1 tsp Dawn dish soap (multiply it larger areas), use a soft bristle brush to rub it it then leave it to dry well (a few hours). When it is completely dry vacuum it up. Depending how bad the stain/smell, you may need to do this a couple time… but it has worked!!!
Thanks for your response Eric. Well, I did have the service come back out. He told me what he did should take care of it as he used an entire jug of whatever enzyme cleaner they use. That was Friday Morning and while it is better than it was there is still a stench. The service has said they specialize in pet treatments, but I am beginning to wonder if this is going to work. They are not pulling up the carpet so I do wonder if whatever they are doing is penetrating through to the pad. I know my cat has not resoiled the carpet because I have kept the room closed. Keeping the window open during the day.
Soak up as much of the urine as possible: Place a thick layer of paper towels on the wet spot, and cover that with a thick layer of newspaper. If possible, put newspaper under the soiled area as well. Stand on this padding for about a minute, and repeat until the area is barely damp.
Before you use any products on furniture, it’s best to disassemble as much as possible. Remove pillows, blankets, slip covers, or any other materials so you can vacuum or treat areas separately and thoroughly.
Popular stain removal products often have lengthy labels telling about how they use “enzymes” to digest and break down stains and odors on a molecular level. It sounds mighty fancy, but with a little time and patience you can easily make your own.
With pets, pee happens, often happens on carpets. But there’s no need to panic. There are several methods of removing dog urine—and the distinctive odor it creates—from carpets without using chemicals that may be harmful to you or your pup.
Plumbing smells are among the worst smells to fill your nostrils. Odors can be caused from a variety of sources, including dirty bathrooms, clogged drains, and damaged plumbing lines. Recognizing these causes and identifying the problem is half the battle » More
If you notice a wet spot that may have happened earlier in the day, sprinkle it with baking soda and let it sit overnight, said Annie B. Bond, green living expert and author of Clean and Green. After the patch dries overnight, spray it with distilled white vinegar and don’t be concerned if the carpet bubbles a bit while the compounds interact to clean.
Unlike enzymes, Odorcide 210 works fast on the worst urine, organic decay, feces, and mold and mildew odors with no dwell time and no danger to or people. Use it on carpets, canvas, clothing, floors, and walls; it’s also effective as a laundry soak or rinse, and as a surface spray.
First, I’d say take it to have the upholstery professionally cleaned, or purchase a heated upholstery machine of your own (like the Little Green Machine I’ve mentioned before). Once you’ve gotten as much of that urine up and out and rinsed as possible open up all of the windows and let it dry very well to keep mildew and mold from growing. Open up a couple of boxes of baking soda and set them around the vehicle. I also really like solid air fresheners from brands like Citrus Magic and Odor Genie (both can be found on Amazon) for helping to eliminate pet odors.
Accidents happen. After all, dogs are only canine. And even the best-behaved cats sometimes think outside the litter box. In the case of pet urine and other tough stains and odors, Rocco & Roxie stain & odor eliminator is the one to reach for. The result: Stains and odors are completely eliminated, leaving carpets, floors, furniture and other surfaces fresh and your beloved pet. Out of the dog house. Of course, it works on much more than pet urine: any organic stain-vomit, feces, all the gross stuff, whether human or animal-lifts out of rugs, carpets and upholstery easily and completely. And not only is our stain & odor eliminator child, pet, it’s so safe on carpets its earned approval from the trusted carpet and rug institute (CRI). A: If the stain is new and still wet, a thorough cold water rinse can remove the bulk of the urine and mitigate or remove any odor before it sets in. The best method for removing dog urine odors from upholstery depends on timing.
