“neutralize dog urine odor in carpet -how to get rid of cat urine smell”

1. If the area is still wet you should first attempt to absorb the dog urine. Leaving it there to dry out will encourage bacterial growth, which causes the odor. The best method is to place several layers of paper towels over the wet area and tread on it to soak up as much of the dog urine as you possibly can. You may have to repeat this several times. Sometimes accidents have already dried because you did not notice them before. You can find dried spots on your carpet with the aid of a black light. Dog urine stains will fluoresce under the ultra violet light in a darkened room; you can always save the expense of a black light to find the odors by using your nose instead.

Rinse the stained area with water and blot using a towel. If you have a hairdryer, try drying the carpet with it for a few minutes.  The vinegar smell may stick around for up to a few days, but then the urine smell will disappear.
Clean the carpets. Spot cleaning stains will help remove smells from specific areas, but you may have a bunch of different smells over different areas of the carpet. Tackle smells all over the house with a thorough carpet cleaning. This might take time, but be patient. A smell-free house is worth the effort.[3] You can either use a powder or wet shampoo to clean your carpets:
Large volumes of concentrated alkaline salts and strong odors that come from bacteria feeding on the waste products contained in the urine can make professional cleaning necessary. The alkaline salts can create a very high pH environment (10 – 10.4) and destabilize normally stable dyes that cause bleeding. This is very difficult to address without steam cleaning and specialized cleaner.
Vanessa Beaty, How is it a good idea to bathe a dog w/ peroxide? Why don’t you try pouring peroxide on your skin to test your “magic” solution out before you spew garbage disguised as advise like this ?
Remove cat urine odor from laundry. Use this method on your clothing, bedding, rugs or anything you think you can stuff in the washer (not including your cat). Simply add ¼ cup apple cider vinegar (which you can get at Amazon) along with your normal laundry detergent, start the washer and VOILA!
I used a rented carpet cleaner extractor which is way more powerful then the home versions and the Nature’s Miracle posted above, not the gallon type. I really thought it was a lost cause but it worked! 🙂
EXACTLY, some people have to put their 2cents worth in even if it’s bad mouth language, don’t they………. my mom used to call that “potty mouth”….. She obviously did something wrong cause I have used this before and it works fine for me……………
White vinegar is great to get rid of some odors, though it isn’t always effective against cat and dog pee. Used straight from the bottle or diluted with water, white vinegar will help neutralize pet urine odors, and it won’t leave behind a sour vinegar smell.
Clean pet messes immediately. You may be tempted to leave extra nasty messes for later, but try to act as soon as possible to avoid lingering odors. Pick up solid waste and throw it in the garbage. Blot the mess to absorb excess moisture. Spray the mess with an enzyme cleaner, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then, blot the area with rags or a cloth and let it air dry.
Animal odors can range in severity and causes as well. From skunk spray to urine and feces, these odors can penetrate deep into fabrics, walls, carpet, and subfloors. Animal odors include carrion odors (dead body), such as those caused by an animal that dies in the attic or crawlspace and goes undetected for a long period of time.
Add 1/2 a cup of orange and lemon peels to the spray bottle mixture. Chopping them into 1-inch pieces will allow the natural oils to be released into the homemade pet odor remover. The citrus peels add a fresh, clean scent and deters your dog from relieving himself in the same spot. Once all of the ingredients are combined together, secure the nozzle of the spray bottle and shake lightly, mixing the ingredients together. You now have a homemade odor remover that will help eliminate pet odors and remove stains in your home. You can use this pet odor recipe when cleaning doorways, a common place for male dogs to mark their territory.
If you happen to suffer from allergies or multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS), you are sure to benefit from using Smelleze® because it does not emit any harmful chemicals and works by eliminating smells rather treating them with additional chemicals which might cause you a problem.
My now deceased cat used to be very territorial and marked the perimeter of the house under the ground floor low windows in living room and dining room, presumably to deter raccoons, other cats, and possibly larger predators (we have coyotes, wolves, cougar, fishers, and bear around– so much to his dismay he was an indoor cat and had to defend his kingdom mostly from the inside of the house). Part of the flooring was marble so I could not use vinegar on that (vinegar eats marble, as does CLR). What I found helpful was powdered hydrogen peroxide diluted with a LITTLE bit of water to make a very strong hydrogen peroxide solution (use gloves). It is marketed under various labels including Oxiclean (or Oxyclean, not sure of the spelling). I also use it on soft furniture and on car upholstery as a spot cleaner. I also use it for washing the removable coverings of sofa cushions or clothes in my front loader washing machine for any places where he had “accidents”. However, you can NOT use oxiclean on silk, leather or rubber.
This bio-enzyme-based odor and stain digester contains over 50 billion enzyme-producing bacteria! Combined with a special odor counteractant, Restor eliminates the source of pet urine, vomit, and other problematic odors and soils.
Bleach your cement floors and bare walls. Although this method is widely disputed because of the deadly reaction bleach has with ammonia (which is found in cat urine), if you go about it carefully, it can be an effective way to kick the urine smell out of your life for good. First, wash the soiled area with any appropriate cleaner you have that DOES NOT contain ammonia. Once clean, wipe the area down with fresh water to remove any residue left behind by the cleaner. Next, do it again. I know it sounds laborious, but trust me, this works. After your second washing and wiping, employ your bleach. In a clean spray bottle you can pick up from the beauty section of any Target store, mix a 10:1 water to bleach solution. Make sure the area you are cleaning in is well ventilated, put on some rubber gloves and get to work. Spray on lightly, let sit for about 30 seconds, and wipe off with a clean damp rag.
is there an alternative? I’m babysitting and the little girl peed on a brown couch and I’ve mixed the soap and water but I can still smell the pee.. there isn’t any baking soda, vinegar, or peroxide here at the house.
There’s no need to rinse or blot the enzymatic cleaner, you simply let it do its work, dissolve and dry. The length of time required depends on what version of cleaner you buy. Some require 24 hours, while serious stains may take up to two weeks to completely dissolve the smell and stain. Sometimes the smell gets worse before it gets better, so don’t be discouraged. In the store, look for the version of carpet cleaner that’s formulated especially for pet urine removal and is available in liquid or powder formula.

I found an area of carpet that one of my cats had peed on twice. It was so bad, it went all the way through to the sub flooring and into the baseboards. I have taken up the carpet and padding and have saturated the flooring with an ineffective odor eliminator. Any suggestions?

I will give this product 5 stars but really don’t know yet. Honestly, I hope to not be able to review for a long time. Bought it for skunks being here and luckily my furbaby was not had an encounter for months. Read about it on “FB Mastiffs Rule Drool Is Cool” . Have found that the tomato juice does not work nor does the homemade recipe. Hoping this might be the solution. 🙂
A: The most common source of a rotten egg smell in residential structures is a natural gas leak. Though natural gas itself is composed primarily of methane, which has no odor, gas companies use an additive known as mercaptan to provide an early warning for homeowners
You can buy washable ones on different sizes off Amazon. I did this 5 yrs ago when we got out puppies an put them by out back door. Even though they go out right before we go to to bed, theres still times one or the other will pee on it 2 or 3 times a week late at night or of im gpne to long during the day. They’re 5yrs old now. I just wash one at a time with only vinegar an air dry while I put the other down. Well worth the $$
First, have a quick talk with him about how warm and airless it is and how you are in cramped quarters. Let him know you’ve been doubling up on the deodorant because of this, and that you have an extra deodorant if he wants it. If he still doesn’t get the hint, get a couple of fans and aim them away from your space to keep the smell from invading it.
We have an apartment also and I’ve wondered about what they’re going to do with this carpet when we move out, because our pet deposit is too small to be enough to replace all the carpet… we do use baking soda/vinegar mixture on it to clean then vinegar sprayed on top out of a spray bottle. Seems to work well, and she doesn’t go to the same spots every time, it seems pretty random.
3. Stinky Shoes & Poo – One or two pairs of stinky boy’s shoes may not seem like a big deal, but in our house, all three boys store ALL of their shoes in a small space that’s only 2′ x 3′. That’s a lot of sweaty sneakers, dirty cleats and musty rain boots in one tiny area! A few sprays of Stinkers! in their shoes and storage baskets, and our mudroom area smells fresh and clean again!
Try different litters. Your cat may not like the texture of your current litter, so find out what he does like. Line up a few disposable litter boxes next to your cat’s regular box, each with a different brand and/or texture of litter, and see which one your cat likes best.
Sometimes, cats will develop a preference for the texture of carpet or other surfaces. Combined with the effect of lingering urine odor, this can lead to a bad habit. Redirect this unwanted behavior by making the affected area less appealing. Remove the odor completely by using a good cleaner and cover the surface with foil or another unappealing material, and make changes to your cat’s litter or litter box to attract them to the correct toilet.
Another place toilet odors may be coming from is the wax ring. It may have eroded and needs to be replaced. If this is something you are not comfortable with doing yourself, call a professional plumber.
Aveho can be used in a wide variety of applications. Aveho can be applied to fabric, upholstery, carpeting, absorbent materials, hard surfaces, and many other places. Due to the high capacity of Aveho to remove malodors, there is no need to over-spray or over-apply Aveho, as this may leave a residue.  Aveho is water soluble, and may be washed away or vacuumed when dry.
