“remove pet urine from carpet -what gets rid of dog pee smell”

Additionally, once a urine stain dries, you may no longer see it but you can still smell it, and so can your cat, leading him or her to re-mark the area. “When it comes to cleaning up cat urine, many cat owners make the same mistake—not cleaning it up quickly enough,” says Meg Roberts, president of Molly Maid, a residential cleaning company.
Hi Debbie, oh that is awful! I had a cat who would VOMIT on me while I was sleeping, so I can kind of feel your pain. First off, the blanket – you may want to trash it if you can’t get the smell out. They’ll keep peeing on it if they smell the pee. I’m not a vet, so of course I’m obliged to tell you that you should talk to your vet, but in my experience cats will urinate in the places they’ve gone before because they associate that as a peeing-spot.
Incontinence as part of aging is another obvious reason for your cat to urinate outside of the litter box. You can help to make this situation easier on your cat by adding more litter boxes around the home. You might also consider laying down disposable absorbent pads in the frequently – soiled areas.
I adopted a puppy and he decided to pee on the top of my plush couch, I have tried and tried to get the pee and smell out. But nothing seems to be working and I don’t know what else to do, I have tried Pirey multi purpose cleaner and I have tried Woolite pet urine eliminator. Aside from trying warm soap and water to try and clean it, I am getting married in September and would really like to get this taken care of before then. I don’t want my guests coming over to my home with a couch, that smells like my dog has made it his personal potty and I haven’t tried to fix it. I don’t know what else to do about the issue so if, anyone has anything that will do the job please help me.
Used to get animal scent off from where the cat sits on the furniture. It did remove smell without harsh fragrance covering it up. However, did not have use on real tough smells like cat urine, so not sure its effect on that. It is quite expensive
We live in the foothills (rural) and there are a few feral cats in the area that are fighting for territory. I was very used to seeing spray spots all over my tires. One day I got in my pickup which I don’t drive all that often and it wreaked of cat pee. After research I pulled up the drive side mat and the carpet was SOAKED with cat pee. I always keep the windows close and upon further research I determined that it appears the urine is being sprayed from under the bottom door seal? Is this possible? With how much upward force/flow can a Tom spray his urine?
I’ve been looking everywhere for a product that gets rid of pet urine odor for forever. My nose is really sensitive, and when you have a large dog and 6 cats (one of which who likes to pee when she’s upset), anything to get rid of the odor is greatly desired. I’ve found products that mask the smell, or slightly reduce it, but SUN actually gets RID OF IT. One thing I actually like is that I can see exactly where the pee is, since the most important thing is you want to saturate the area.
Smoke – Odors from the smoke of cigarettes, cigars, house fires, camp fires and other sources can be quickly and permanently removed by Aveho.  So go ahead and light one up right next to those fancy-schmancy curtains in that fancy-schmancy room that never gets used.  No one will ever know.
This may be particularly true for dead animals that are decomposing in your home without your knowledge. “Animal carcasses are often hidden in crevices of the home or behind layers of sheetrock.” If this is the case, and you’re able to locate the source in your home, you may be able to tackle the decomposition odors.
White vinegar is great to get rid of some odors, though it isn’t always effective against cat and dog pee. Used straight from the bottle or diluted with water, white vinegar will help pet urine odors, and it won’t leave behind a sour vinegar smell.
Find old stains. You might have a general idea of where old stains might be from the odor. If you think there might be old stains in an area, explore using a sweeping motion, gradually moving farther away from the generally smelly location. The pet urine that you’re looking for should show up as a yellow or greenish color. Try looking in the following areas:
Un-Duz-It is proven effective at removing organic-related staining and correcting pet odor problems, such as urine, feces, and vomit. It eliminates the source of organic odor naturally, and contains performance-enhancing ingredients to help fabrics and carpets resist soiling.
Potassium permanganate is quite effective against smell of dog urine. It is a product which acts as oxidant as well as provides deodorizing effect. It is recommended to implement this method only on the dark surfaces as potassium permanganate is easily painting the textile or carpet.
Try pheromone diffusers if you believe that territorial stress is part of the inappropriate urination issue. These products give off a synthetic version of the “happy cat” pheromone, which makes cats feel less stressed and more likely to use their litter box.
There is nothing more embarrassing than hearing someone ask, “What’s that smell?” when they enter your home. Many things can cause lingering odors, and they have nothing to do with how much you clean. Once odors are embedded deep down where normal cleaning cannot reach, those unpleasant smells will hang in the air. In some cases, they can even make the air unhealthy and cause an array of health problems. If you have odors that won’t go away then it’s time to call the professionals.

When cat urine dries, the urea is broken down by the bacteria. This is what makes it smell like ammonia. As it decomposes further, it releases thiols that make the odor worse. (It is the thiols in skunk spray that make it SO potent and difficult to remove).
Hey, this may be a bit late for the one commenter talking about pee soaked plywood subflooring but maybe it can help someone else in the future. After treating plywood with vinegar, bleach, whatever else, let it dry thoroughly and then use Killz primer on it. Do a couple of coats. This will seal the plywood and hel prevent any residual urine smell from coming up through new carpeting.
I am so thankful that I found this site. I have 2, 11 year old kitties, both are fixed and have medical issues. My male cat has a urinary tract disorder and requires special food and lots of water. He is the perfect kitty, loves his litter box. My female has an inoperable stomach tumor and has decided that she no longer wants to pee in the litter box. Instead she has several places in my bedroom and bathroom that she rather use. I have tried vinegar w/ water and followed that with baking soda, she goes right on top of all of it. The tile and sheetrock in the bathroom are horrible. I have tried all the natural ways of cleaning them with no avail in deterring her. I’m not sure I know what an enzyme cleaner is but really need help with this. The Vet said they don’t make kitty diapers when I asked, I am willing to try anything.
To make this cleaning mixture is quite simple. Take 10 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and one or two drops of dish detergent. Mix all three ingredients in a bowl and then slowly pour into a spray bottle. (Otherwise, the baking soda will cause the mixture to foam all over the place).
Another possible reason that an older cat may forego the litter box is arthritis. “As cats age, they can get arthritis, which makes it harder for them to get into the box,” Kornreich said. “Perhaps the sides are too tall or the box is located in a place that requires the cat to do some kind of arduous physical activity to get to, such as up or down a flight of stairs.”
If you’re working with tile or white carpet, then you might want to try a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Try mixing a cup of baking soda, a half cup of 2% hydrogen peroxide, and a dash of dish soap.
Quick question for you – do you have a recommendation for an odor removing recipe that can be used in a carpet shampoo vacuum? I do not want to buy a regular shampoo from the store as my vet told me it does not remove the urine smell and that animals will still be attracted and potty on the carpet as long as I use a regular shampoo.
I know there are so many cleaning recipes out on the Internet that say to mix these two ingredients together for cleaning odors and stains for pet urine but it really doesn’t do anything useful. When you mix these two together, in the end, you’ll just end up with salty tasting water.

My doggy has had frequent accidents since we got her. I feel your pain! Instead of caging her at night, I started training her to sleep with me. I just put her leash around my ankle. I realized quickly that she wouldn’t tinkle on the bed, couch, or anytime she is leashed to me. My vet suggested this and it’s done wonders for my furry baby!!

Be prepared for accidents when you bring home a new cat. You’ll need to train your cat to use the litter box properly, clean up after her if she doesn’t, and get medical treatment for her if an illness is causing inappropriate urination.
We also know that every pet owner has experienced the embarrassment of their furry friend greeting a guest with a less than welcoming scent. We know the frustration of walking into a room and smelling that Fido mistook the carpet for the grass. At OdorKlenz we understand that even the best pets bring some extremely unpleasant odors into our homes and lives. We don’t judge the odors; we just get rid of them safely and effectively!
Thanks for your response Eric. Well, I did have the service come back out. He told me what he did should take care of it as he used an entire jug of whatever enzyme cleaner they use. That was Friday Morning and while it is better than it was there is still a stench. The service has said they specialize in pet treatments, but I am beginning to wonder if this is going to work. They are not pulling up the carpet so I do wonder if whatever they are doing is penetrating through to the pad. I know my cat has not resoiled the carpet because I have kept the room closed. Keeping the window open during the day.
Just like in the human world, so many unwanted feline behaviors can be explained by stress. Inappropriate urination is no exception. Cats commonly urinate outside the litter box because of unhappiness and anxiety over changes in the home environment, restriction of their natural behaviors, abuse, or unpleasant dynamics with other cats. If your cat recently started exhibiting this behavior after something in the home changed, it’s probably because of stress. Take a close look at your cat’s surroundings and determine what could be stressing them out, then neutralize those issues as best you can. Offering your cat a safe space to hide out or a tree from which they can overlook the home can help them to de-stress.
Also, my situation is very dire. Our daughter developed an addiction to heroin and the past couple of years, we have become very neglectful to keeping the house clean. So I’m not dealing with day old odors, but years old. I don’t like to admit that because it’s a really embarrassing situation. It’s impossible to have people over to visit. Thank God for the anonymity of the internet so I can ask for help.

Go ahead and replace the cover, then allow the area to air dry. A high-quality enzymatic cleaner will continue to consume odor sources until they’ve been completely eliminated. If after the first application, the odor remains, reapply after the surface has dried.
