Fold a bath towel two times and cover the urine spot. Stand on towel and dab the urine into the towel by walking In place. When urine is seen on the towel under your shoes pick up the towel and cover the urine with an unsoiled section of the folded towel. Repeat as necessary to get the liquid up. As urine comes up from the carpet use unfolded towels or only fold once.
Yes. Baking soda is especially effective and part of many protocols for removing the urine smell. However, a single treatment may not do the trick if the urine has already dried in. You may need to repeat daily for two to three weeks.
I have a female pitbull who is somewhat trained, and by that I mean she does well when I’m awake and goes to the restroom when I take her outside but during the night when I sleep she gets up without me noticing and uses the restroom on my carpet. She used to cry when she needed out but has recently stopped and left me with surprises in the morning. I’ve recently moved her to outside and I hate it because she is my sleeping buddy. What should I do?
Replace the cat’s litter box more often. Cats like clean litter boxes, just as humans like clean bathrooms. If you’re neglecting your cat’s needs when it comes to offering a clean litter box, he may find it harder to resist urinating on your sofa or carpet.
It does not discolor. You can safely use the product on majority of fabrics without risking discoloration. Harsh chemicals is what causes these issues, and those would be dangerous to dogs as well (thereby marking a product not pet-friendly).
Hi, so we got 2, 3 month old, kittens about a month ago. Initially they had zero trouble finding and using the litter box. I decided to try to potty train them. I’ve done quite a bit of research on it but despite reading several articles that say not to rush them, I thought my cats were smarter than others 🙂 I was wrong! I have now realized the error of my ways and feel that I have made many many steps to correct my errors. My biggest issue was changing from the old-school cat litter to the flushable wheat kind too fast. I have given up on even trying to potty train until I can get both of the kittens to use the litter box every single time. I think it is only one of the cats that is having any trouble, but he either pees or poops near the litter box or he pees in my bedroom in the corner. I have tried several cleaning solutions but I’m planning on using your recipe today to completely rid the smell. If I am able to get out the urine smell, is that enough to deter him from using it again? Or do you have any other suggestions? I clean their litter box out twice a day and I did some research and found that some cats don’t like a lot of litter in the litter box, it gives them a quicksand feeling, so I have a small pan next to the larger one with only a small amount of litter in it. I still came home from work last night to find poop in the bathtub next to the litter box. Please help!! Thank you!!
The Washington Post have published an article about the dangers of various pesticides and other related chemical products that owners often use at home and forget that their dogs may come in contact with this. Always look for products that are safe for your dog, and better yet, purchase products made with as many natural ingredients as possible.
All of this one-on-one time means that all of our furnishings are going to hold the distinct smell of dog, and even the most rabid of dog lovers amongst us may not want the whole house to smell of a dog that needs a good washing – not if we want to enjoy the company of human guests. So how do you get rid of that smelly dog smell? We’re happy to tell you that it’s relatively easy.
If you’ve had the good fortune of dealing with cat urine outside the litter box, you know that it is the most offensive and unpleasant excretions from a house pet. Not only does it make your eyes burn and your hair fall out, but the smell of cat urine causes cats to revisit the scene of the accident.
Mix a two-parts water and one-part vinegar solution. Pour this mixture over the stain and soak for about 3 to 5 minutes. Then blot the area to soak up the excess liquid.[15] Note that vinegar should not be used on marble or stone surfaces.

Eric, thanks for the suggestion, I will try that. As for the black light, I have three cats so not 100% sure which one has pee’d. But I suspect it might be my oldest cat, who is 19. She does have slightly lowered kidney function due to her age, and I take her to the vet 3-4 times a month to get additional fluids. So you may very well be right about her urine being diluted such that I can smell the stain but not see it with a black light. Just surprises me I wouldn’t see at least an faint outline, especially on items that smell strongly of urine. First I tried a small, bar shaped blacklight that came with one of the cleaners. I thought perhaps it was not powerful enough so ordered another blacklight that is like a flashlight in design and supposed to be much stronger. Neither seems to show any stain, either on the blankets or on the canvas bag. Strange, but I guess I will just trust my nose to treat the areas!
Still. someone who has two cats that she loves very, very much, I can’t help but feel like they’ve committed a special kind of wrong when one of them urinates on something of mine or my children’s. It’s just so violating.

If you suffer from the dog/cat pee problem and don’t have the ability or money to install tile, then buy indoor/outdoor carpet. The new stuff at Lowes feels like real carpet without the problems of it.
Urine can often soak through the carpet and into the subflooring, leaving a stain and a stench that can’t be lifted with carpet cleaner and elbow grease. If you have pet odor that will not go away despite your best carpet-cleaning efforts, neutralize the scent by using an oil-based, stain-blocking primer beneath the carpeting on the subfloor and replace the padding as well as that area of carpet.
Finally, to ensure that guests are not smelling anything you aren’t, we recommend freshening up carpets and upholstery with the gentle, but mighty OdorKlenz Source Odor Treatment. Our Source Odor Treatment truly eliminates odors at their source!
“I’ve been training dogs for ten years, so I’ve dealt with a lot of pee. My newest thing is Biokleen. I can’t use chemicals with the dogs I train — they get sneezy — so I like to go natural. Biokleen works with plant-based surfactants and doesn’t leave a layer of artificial perfume. It’s the same cleaner I use in my home.” — Elizabeth Reddin, dog trainer and owner of The Dog Institute of Williamsburg
I have three Scotties. Cushing’s disease will cause a dog to pee a lot, drink a lot of water and you should check with your vet for diagnosis and medication. Currently have one that has it and previously had one that had it. Evidently it is fairly common in certain breeds. And urinary tract infections will also make doggies pee more frequently.
Eew, that smell is right! I’ve had a few stains in some rugs around the house which I’ve tried everything to get the smell out. The rugs are way to big to put in the washer and didn’t want to go through the hassle (or cost) of getting it professionally cleaned so I tried the Sunny & Honey spray and it truly is a miracle, well worth every penny for any other frustrated dog parents who are neat freaks like me!
Search at night or in complete darkness. Pet urine can be difficult to see, especially when old, so maximize your search efforts by taking advantage of darkness. Either wait for night, or make the room as dark as possible.
I used the vinegar/water mixture in my carpet cleaner due to the large area I needed to clean, although I did 2 parts waters and one part vinegar, then went back and just sprinkled baking soda on after using a brush to work the soda in, allowing it to dry and vacuum and the smell was gone.
One of the nice things about this product is that it has Scotchguard built right into it, meaning that you get the cleaning and odor removal followed by a protective layer that will stay in place on the offending rug.
Cat urine odor removal is a big business, one to which pet stores have devoted entire aisles. Desperate pet owners spend huge sums trying to get rid of those stains and that musky, acrid smell. We all know that most of these products do not work. They may mask the problem for a short time, but after awhile, it returns.
A: To get skunk spray out of clothes, a mixture of hot water, vinegar and laundry detergent can be used. Clothes should be allowed to soak undisturbed in the mixture for about 20 minutes before washing normally.

Burn incense. Incense comes in many forms and in many different smells. To burn incense sticks, place the skinny end of the stick into an incense holder. Light the opposite end of the stick until the tip begins to glow, and then blow out the flame. As the incense burns it will release sweet-smelling smoke that will make the air smell great.
Find out why your pet is urinating inappropriately. Often, inappropriate urination can be a sign of a urinary tract infection or other illness. It can also be caused by stress or fear. Observe your pet and take it to the vet to eliminate any health problems it might have.
Using traditional methods of cleaning up the cat smell usually eliminate the ammonia smell but Uric acid in the urine is left behind. That can only be broken down by an enzyme cleaner. Here is a link Enzyme cleaner This should break down the uric acid.
Our dog is potty trained. But now, she is peeing in the hallway, dining room and master bedroom now. We’ve been using baby gates to keep her from going in that part of the house. But we’re getting frustrated with having to climb over baby gates now. What can we do or use to get her to stop peeing in these areas of our home?
