I purchased this product last year, and it really does do a nice job at removing the odor from the cat urine. I have wood floors, and I’ve used it plenty of times directly on the wood floor with no negative consequences to the wood.
There’s a common theme in anything which we use to handle our pets: a high cost. With Out!’s Pet Stain and Odor Remover you might just be able to handle the problem without making a super serious investment.
You don’t have to accept this as part of your adventure with your favorite furry friends. Get a cleaner, get the right shampoo, and you’ll be glad to know that there is an end in sight to what some consider the primary disadvantage of pet ownership. Just make sure you do your research and you’re good to go and well on your way to an odor and stain free home that you thought was an impossibility since you brought Fido home from the pound.
Carl, I just bought a house and the carpet looks great but reaks of cat urine, I do not see where the cat peed. Can I saturate entire floor and tha will take care of it? Also is it safe or do I need to wear mask or something, just want to make sure it’s safe.
I am so annoyed. upon moving a bed to another room I found three pee stains rather large under the bed smack dab in the middle of carpet. I tried three carpet cleaners and a toothbrush scrubbing allowing overnight soaking in. I tried three different at home carpet cleaner as well. When wet it looks like the stain is completely gone. But when fully dry stain reappears. Any suggestions? If I hire a commercial cleaner it will look great until it dries any help from anyone???
Consider steam-cleaning the carpet. If the enzymatic cleaner didn’t remove the stain completely, consider renting a steam cleaner or hiring a professional to do the job for you. Make sure to ask if they have a product to add into their solution designed for pet stains. Stains are a lot easier to remove when they’re fresh, so try to decide quickly if this is what you need to do.
Our dog is potty trained. But now, she is peeing in the hallway, dining room and master bedroom now. We’ve been using baby gates to keep her from going in that part of the house. But we’re getting frustrated with having to climb over baby gates now. What can we do or use to get her to stop peeing in these areas of our home?
Your urine contains waste products that need to be expelled from the body along with water. When you drink less water, the waste matter becomes more concentrated and can cause urine to smell stronger than usual. This darker, more concentrated urine can appear early in the morning when you haven’t drunk much water over the night or when you’ve not had enough water and the body is dehydrated.7
Accidents will happen, particularly if you have a young puppy or an older dog. How to get the smell of dog wee out of carpet is big business, judging by the number of products that are on the market to do the job! But do you really need these chemicals? In this article, I am going to show you some simple tips for how to get dog urine out of carpet without chemicals, fuss or expense!
When urine dries, it leaves behind crystals in the carpet fibre which attract water – so wee stains in carpet tend to always be a bit damp from the moisture in the air.. which means that they always pong a bit.
My husband and I were thinking about taking him to ‘doggy school’, but then again, it’s extremely expensive, and the nearest ‘doggy school’ is far away from us. Maybe you have some advice? THANK YOU!!!!
I have 2 older poms, Bear is 10 and had a bad time for several months of drinking every drop of water, several times a day and then constantly having accidents all over the house. And every time I took them out, he went a lot! First vet visit I was told that his urine was too watered to tell if he had any infection. Then told they wanted him brought back for expensive testing to check for cushings disease. Since I couldn’t afford $500-$1000 in testing medications, I decided to change their dry food to something more reputable. Since taking them off just 6 and on to nature’s balance then blue wilderness (slightly more affordable) Bear is doing great! Maybe 2-3 accidents in last 5 months! (That may have been my fault for not getting them outside for too long) I am not trying to talk bad about any vets or food labels, I just want to share this experience because it may be helpful to someone.
The shade, light or dark, also changes. If it has no color at all, that may be because you’ve been drinking a lot of water or taking a drug called a diuretic, which helps your body get rid of fluid. Very dark honey- or brown-colored urine could be a sign that you’re dehydrated and need to get more fluids right away. It may also be a warning sign of liver problems, so see your doctor if it doesn’t get better after a day or so.
I hope that you have found this article useful and now know how to remove the odor of dog urine from your carpets and eliminate the evidence of those little accidents that are bound to happen from time to time! I use only ingredients from my store cupboard and have never found it necessary to use hydrogen peroxide.
I took in two street cats in 2006. They are excellent in grooming themselves and didn’t need any litter box training. One of the cats has a poop smell on his scruff while the other does not. I thought it may have been a temporary thing, but it is still very much there. Is there a natural way I can get rid of this odor, especially since it is directly located on cat’s scruff area? Thanks!
If you’re not concerned with brand names, and just want a solid carpet cleaner that makes one of the best ways to get dog hair out of carpet… well, the Rug Doctor may be just the solution you’re looking for.

Thank you so much for this recipe. I used the vinegar and baking soda mixture to remove urine stains and strong odors from my son’s carpeted room. It worked wonders! Both our puppy and our 2 year old are potty training and have peed on his floor several times a week. I made this concoction today (had to half it due to the size of my spray bottle), and I added 4 drops of lavender essential oil too. It worked like a dream. There’s a hint of lavender smell in his room and nothing else.

Whether it be from pet urine or a spill, once you have thoroughly removed all residue and think you have it all, place several layers of white paper towel on the freshly cleaned wet area. Next, weight the paper towel down. I use a large piece of ceramic/porcelain tile, and let it sit for about 48 hours. You will be amazed at what dries up into the paper towel instead of drying in the top fibers of your carpet.

Some cleaning products work better than others depending on the type of carpet you have, such as natural versus synthetic fibers. Read the label on these products to find the one that can best remove dog or pet urine odor from carpet.
Cats love to rub their smell on the corners of couches, chairs, tables, walls, doors, fridges, bench bases, or anything else they can potentially mark with their scent glands (ever see your cat rubbing their face on your legs?). Try wiping furniture with vinegar and washing all curtains, too.
Thanks justmesuzanne, but I haven’t found any odor problems after treating the area promptly with just vinegar and baking soda. Listerine is a good tip (apparently this product was first invented as a floor cleaner and only later became a mouthwash!!). I would definitely recommend checking that it has no effect on the color of the carpet by testing in an inconspicuous area first though.
Important: Bleach is very dangerous for our skin. During the whole process of preparation and applying the bleach use rubber gloves in order not to harm your skin. It is also recommended to apply some greasy hand cream on the hands before wearing gloves.
Whether you’re taking care of years of build up of dog urine or a malcontent and spraying feline’s mess you’ll be glad to know that things can be handled. Make sure to give it some time to soak and you’ll be well on your way to a cleaner and better smelling floor.
(Explanation. Dish Soap or Dishwashing Detergent? Different countries call it different names. It is what you use to wash dishes in your sink. For example, Dawn, Palmolive, Fairy etc. Do not use Detergent that you put in your dishwasher)
Well, after the black light arrived, we went around the house and found white patches showing up EVERYWHERE! I read that the bright white can be from left-over carpet cleaners, that urine should be dull and yellowish. Anyhow, in our case, the black light did not help us identify urine spots, because most of the white spots did not smell like urine, and there was so much “white” that we cannot tell “yellow”. We gave up the idea of “spot-cleaning” except for one spot that I definitely smelled urine.
Replace the padding underneath. For stubborn stains that you suspect may have soaked through the carpet into the padding, replacing the padding itself will help a lot. Pull up the carpet, cut a sample of the padding and bring it to a home improvement store to find padding of equal thickness. Cut out the stained padding and replace it with a piece of the new padding.
Mix a solution of fifty percent white vinegar and fifty percent water. Use a spray bottle to apply the vinegar solution to the carpet. Work the solution into the carpet with a soft brush (or your fingers) to ensure it penetrates the carpet fibers below.
My neighbor can’t get her tiny yorkie trained so she stays in a fenced in area all the time and uses a disposable pad. I was using them too but when her dog visits (which is daily) she wasn’t using them, she would go all over the house. My sister told me she was started using large non disposable pads like the pads used in hospital beds. I tried it and both dogs are using it with no accidents. I just throw them in the washer with bleach. I think a little odor, that only the dogs smell, brings them back to it every time. They are very inexpensive and much cheaper than disposables.
Large volumes of concentrated alkaline salts and strong odors that come from bacteria feeding on the waste products contained in the urine can make professional cleaning necessary. The alkaline salts can create a very high pH environment (10 – 10.4) and destabilize normally stable dyes that cause bleeding. This is very difficult to address without steam cleaning and specialized cleaner.
Clean furniture. Pet smells love to hide in furniture. Your cat’s special chair may be host to all sorts of irksome smells. The type of furniture will dictate the best cleaning method, but you should always check the care labels before cleaning to make sure the piece isn’t dry clean only. Care labels marked with an S mean don’t clean with water, and X means dry clean only.
Dealing with a urinary incontinence episode is never easy — but it can be especially difficult when the episode happens around other people. Dark clothing can help disguise wetness, but it won’t cover up odors. Fortunately, there are other ways to keep smells to a minimum.
Open windows. There’s nothing like some nice, fresh breeze to air out bad smells. In spring, summer, and fall, open windows throughout the house to create a breeze that will blow fresh air in one window and bad smells out the other.[9]
I foster dogs in addition to owning two of my own, so I have a lot of pups going through my house. Since they’re rescues and often times come from places where they haven’t even started on potty training, I have a lot of accidents in my house. And I do mean a lot. Pretty much everything you could imagine that could come out of either end of dog has probably ended up on my carpet at some point or another. Come spring time my backyard also turns into a mud pit, and I have dogs tearing in from the backyard tracking who knows what all over the place. In short, stain removers are a must at my house, and not only do they have to get the stain, but the smell as well. Unfortunately, it took me awhile to catch on to the fact that I could make my own and that they would work just as well as the dozen or so other expensive cleaners I’d tried before. Mud, blood, number 1 or number 2, here are 3 natural DIY solutions to keeping up on pet stains and odors.
Tip: The Humane Society urges you NOT to use heavy cleaning chemicals, like ammonia or vinegar. They actually don’t remove the odor, and the strong scent of the chemicals may entice your dog to mark “his” area again (learn more about why dogs mark their territory).

I’m interested in the intersection between design and technology—whether for drywall or robotic vacuums—and how the resulting combination affects consumers. I’ve written about consumer advocacy issues for publications like The Atlantic, PC Magazine, and Popular Science, and now I’m happy to be tackling the topic for CR. Thoroughly blot up as much of whatever it is you’re cleaning up. I can’t emphasize the importance of this step enough. Fold up a rag over it, place a heavy book on it, and stand on the book to make sure you really get it all out (sounds extreme, but it does a good job!) Mix 2 cups of white distilled vinegar with 2 cups of lukewarm water in a large bowl.
3. The “hair trap” (a small red square “tray”) doesn’t work so well. Is it a big deal? I don’t know. It may be for some. It is a hassle to have to scoop hairs off the top of the bladder when you are going to reuse it right away rather than just emptying the little trap. Does it affect performance? It hasn’t so far that I know of. I know that it is more hassle to clean the tank with loose hair in the tank and stuck to the bladder. You have to watch it going down your drain so you aren’t dumping pet hair and carpet fuzzies down the drain. It just means that I have to lift the bladder that holds the soap/clean water and shift it when I rinse when I am cleaning it to put it away. I don’t know if that means it gets into any part of the machine’s motor or not though. Someone more technical than me can possibly answer that question.
I collect all my laundry water in a big plastic tub in the back yard, and it had come to stink also. I sprayed the tub with Skout’s Honor and the filthy smell was instantly gone. 2 months later, the laundry tub has developed that smell again, and I know how to get rid of it now.
Always check with your doctor if your pee is pink or red. You might have blood in your urine. It doesn’t always mean there’s a problem, but it can be a sign of kidney disease, a UTI, prostate problems, or a tumor.
Pet messes on your carpet? Coffee or Cola Spills? No problem. BISSELL DeepClean Premier Pet Carpet Cleaner delivers powerful deep cleaning on carpets and upholstery to remove pet stains and pet odors.
Mark each spot that you find. If you’re on the stain-finding warpath, make sure don’t get ahead of yourself and forget where all the stains are. Keep a roll of blue painter tape on you while you’re looking around, and mark each spot that needs to be cleaned with a small strip of blue tape. When you’ve found all the stains you want to clean up, go back with your cleaning materials and find your stains easily.

Important: Before implementing hydrogen peroxide on your carpet try it on the small part of the carpet and make sure that carpet does not change the color. If the test is accomplished and carpet is looking good go ahead and wash the whole spot with the cleaning mixture.
The first step is to grab a length of around six sheets of kitchen roll, fold this into a six sheet thick square and press it down onto the wet area of the carpet with your foot. Repeat with fresh kitchen roll until the area is as dry as you can get it.
Orange: When your pee is the color of a citrus-flavored soft drink, it’s probably because of meds like high-dose vitamin B2, the UTI drug phenazopyridine, or the antibiotic isoniazid. Depending on the color, it could also be a sign that you’re dehydrated or that there’s a problem with your liver or bile duct. You should ask your doctor about it.
If you need to get the smell of dog urine out of your carpets, spray or pour a mixture of one part vinegar and one part water onto the carpet where the urine is. Let the vinegar soak for at least 10 minutes, then blot up the solution with a sponge or paper towel and let it begin to air dry. When the vinegar is almost dry, sprinkle baking soda onto the wet spot on the carpet and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then vacuum it away.
Really helpful! The light sounds especially useful, as I have mostly black and other dark fabrics. Accidents are hard to spot! Our dog doesn’t actually pee in the floor, he is just one of those dogs that sprinkles when he is happy (and excited, scared, upset, sleeping, etc!)
