If you find that your pup is peeing a lot inside of the crate then there is very likely a medical problem. Some dogs – females especially – just have weak bladders, too. So that’s always a factor. That’s really hard to deal with, but sometimes medication from veterinarians can help.
Everyone is different, but most people need to empty their bladders up to eight times a day. That can change depending on how much you eat and drink, especially caffeine and alcohol. It could be a side effect of medications, too. Pregnant women and older people usually have to go more often than others.
We have experienced dog urine stains and odor in carpets and have found most commercial cleaners are ineffective. In addition, most carpet cleaning companies are unable to remove the odor. We had one company that had to clean and treat the flooring under the carpet in order to eliminate the odor under the carpet. We are trying the vinegar solution as a last resort for an area rug that the carpet cleaning company was unsuccessful at deodorizing.
Carpet is just not designed to be washable to the degree required to get urine out, if its soaked through the underlay and into the floor below then you have pretty much no chance at all and really you need a new carpet or better yet… a waterproof flooring like lino or tiles.
Re-wet the spot with water. After you’ve lifted the towel, pour a small amount of cold water over the spot again. Start pouring just outside the perimeter of the stain, slowly moving toward the center. This will prevent the water from spreading the urine out into an even wider circle. Allow the water to work through the stain for about a minute.
Urine naturally has an odor that is unique to everyone. Urine doesn’t usually have a strong odor. You may notice that your urine occasionally has a stronger smell than it normally does. This isn’t always a cause for concern. Sometimes strong or… Read More
Clean old pet messes with an enzyme cleaner. Hidden or improperly cleaned messes are often the culprits behind pet odor. If there are areas where there have been recent pet messes, spray the area with an enzyme cleaner. Let the cleaner soak in for 30 minutes, and then blot it dry with a clean cloth. You may find that the pesky pet odor has disappeared.
I work for a carpet cleaning company and we use a product called Skunk Out by Adco Pro Cleaning. It doesn’t take much and it works very well. The product contains active enzymes that break down the ammonia in the urine.
We have an apartment also and I’ve wondered about what they’re going to do with this carpet when we move out, because our pet deposit is too small to be enough to replace all the carpet… BUT we do use baking soda/vinegar mixture on it to clean then vinegar sprayed on top out of a spray bottle. Seems to work well, and she doesn’t go to the same spots every time, it seems pretty random.
The OdorKlenz pet urine eliminator is your number one source for safe and effective urine and pet odor removal. The carpeting and flooring in your home often fall victim to pet accidents that need to be tended to quickly. Most urine odor eliminating products are primarily designed to focus on one aspect or chemistry of the urine odor problem, often just masking the urine odor, with perfumes and fragrances but the best way to attack an odor source is to have a product that can work via multiple pathways to achieve odor neutralization. OdorKlenz Pet Urine Eliminator is ideal for use on carpets and rugs where pet accidents have occurred. Use with an extractor or let it dry, then brush and vacuum it out. For liquid and vomit, spills try our OdorKlenz Absorbent.

Pee doesn’t usually have a strong smell. But some foods — especially asparagus, which has a smelly sulfur compound — can change the odor. So can vitamin B-6 supplements. When you’re dehydrated and your pee gets very concentrated, it can smell strongly of ammonia.
Carl, I just bought a house and the carpet looks great but reaks of cat urine, I do not see where the cat peed. Can I saturate entire floor and tha will take care of it? Also is it safe or do I need to wear mask or something, just want to make sure it’s safe.
Let’s face it: Most of us don’t give much thought to our pee before we flush it out of sight. But the basic details of your urine — color, smell, and how often you go — can give you a hint about what’s going on inside your body.
It differs form the BISSELL Big Green in that it has a smaller tank size, and it does not seem to deep clean as powerfully as the Big Green. Its advantage over the Big Green lies in the pure focus on pets, with the pet hair collector, and also its smaller size and the lower price.
Bubba’s calls their enzyme cleaner “the pet stain and odor TERMINATOR” because it destroys stubborn urine smells for good. It eats away urine bacteria to prevent re-marking. You can spot-treat with Bubba’s, or add it to a load of laundry to wash dog bets and blankets stained with pee.
Joe Truini: My friend Blackie here is a sweetie pie, but she tends to leave black fur all over the rug. In this case I even vacuumed the rug, but you still can’t get up all the fur, because it gets stuck down in the fibers.
Rarely review anything but I had to for this product. First let me say that I have a graveyard of at least 100 cat urine neutralizer products… none of them have worked for me. This product, however, is AMAZING! I have two cats and they occasionally pee outside their litter box. Many covers have been destroyed and thrown away. I wish I had discovered this product sooner. I put the stained covers in the washer machine first with vinegar and let them soak for a few hours. Then I put them through the rinse cycle 2-3 times. After that I soaked them with this product overnight (I’m sure it doesn’t have to be that long, I just wanted to make sure the fabric soaked it up) and then rinsed and dried the covers. I smell NOTHING, the covers do NOT smell like urine and the product does not leave an after scent. The only problem I had was that the bottle is sooooooo small, but it is my fault for not noticing the size before buying. I will be purchasing this product again. I am so happy to finally find something that works!
Consider steam-cleaning the carpet. If the enzymatic cleaner didn’t remove the stain completely, consider renting a steam cleaner or hiring a professional to do the job for you. Make sure to ask if they have a product to add into their solution designed for pet stains. Stains are a lot easier to remove when they’re fresh, so try to decide quickly if this is what you need to do.
Mix lemon juice (commercial or freshly squeezed) with water and sprinkle it on your carpets. This smell is pleasant for people, but will keep your dog at bay. The citric acid is also effective if you want to clean and remove urine odor from carpets.
Fresh lemon juice diluted with water (ratio of 1:1) will help to eliminate the smell of dog urine from the furniture and carpet. The mixture is left on the surface for 15 minutes and then wiped with the clean textile or sponge. In order to achieve the desired result you should start cleaning the surface immediately. The worst case is when urine dries. If it is necessary the method can be repeated several times.

Hi I saw your post about kitty having trouble keeping dinner down. We have three cats and our princess Madeleine had this issue. She is also 12. She had always been fine (our babies eat supercoat and dine) but as she got older her stomach got more sensitive. The only thing we’ve had luck with is kitty soup. Done and fancy feast make it. She loves it, has put a little weight on and keeps it down 🙂 hope it helps
7. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH how well this thing picks up hair and carpet fuzz! I would never have thought that a carpet that is 10 years old, is vacuumed once a day with a Dyson and shampooed PROFESSIONALLY twice a year would have any fuzz left, let alone tons of pet hair and let me tell you, this thing brings it up. I did shampoo the room twice over (once through, then go back again) and it was AS FULL the second time of pet hair as it was the first. AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Made me want to immediately do a third time over, but alas, my bad back was out after two times over this extra large room of carpet. It will occasionally leave long strands of matted fuzz and fur in its wake when I am using it. This could also be considered a “CON” because you have to bend over and pick these up all over the carpet. 🙂 Lazy. I know.
Basically pink liquid is used usually but in case of long-standing stains of dog’s urine or very old stains we should prepare dark or almost black mixture of the potassium permanganate (we just add more of the crystals in the warm water).
Sometimes dog urine accidents have already dried because you did not notice them previously. You can find dried urine spots on your carpet with the aid of a black light. The dog urine stains will fluoresce under the ultra violet light in a darkened room. Hand held black lights are quite inexpensive usually costing between $15 – $25.
*Based on studies conducted by independent laboratories of Chem-Dry’s HCE (Hot Carbonating Extraction), P.U.R.T. (Pet Urine Removal Treatment), Granite Countertop Renewal, and Tile, Stone & Grout cleaning processes. Allergens tested were dog and cat dander and dust mite allergen. Pet odor results based on testing with the most common odor sources found in dog and cat urine. Pet urine bacteria results based on Chem-Dry’s HCE cleaning process and a sanitizer, combined with P.U.R.T. All bacteria results include use of sanitizer. Figures are an average across multiple tests.

We bathe our dogs weekly and to limit the dry skin that frequent shampooing/bathing causes, we alternate the various shampoos with just a water rinse/bath and a natural conditioner so as not to strip their skin of all their natural oils as that is what the shampoos do.

Certain foods — most notably asparagus. Asparagus is notorious for causing a foul, eggy or “cabbagy” stench that results from a sulfur compound called methyl mercaptan (also found in garlic and skunk secretions). Only 50 percent of people can smell asparagus pee because they have the required gene. Cutting off the tips of asparagus will reportedly prevent the pungent-smelling pee…but of course, this is the tastiest part!
I just moved into a new place, the people who lived in it before us had dogs. The pet urine smell is actually pretty strong. I’ve used pet urine, stain and odor spray, it didn’t help. We used a carpet scrubber on it twice and I don’t think its helping. Any helpful hits or ideas? I just want the smell gone!
If you go to a horse store, you can get some stall neutralizer that works for the rocks. I live in the desert and so I really do not have grass. I sprinkle this every so often and it helps immensely. It will come in a 40 lb bag and it is safe for pets.
The only possible case when you can use the iodine to remove the urine smell is the case when you have a dark carpet. Prepare weak solution of the iodine (15 drops of iodine should be diluted in 1 liter of water). The diluted iodine is applied on the spot for 5-7 minutes. After that you should rinse the carpet with the textile soaked in warm water.
When your pooch leaves a puddle on the carpet, he also leaves behind an obvious stain. The soiled area might be less noticeable on a darker rug, but you’ll still be able to see it and even smell it if it’s not thoroughly cleaned. Vinegar is useful for removing dried dog urine stains from carpets because it . While vinegar alone isn’t effective when the stains are dried, teaming baking soda and water up with vinegar will get the job done.
For the bed, you might want to do this in the morning so that you can clean and remake the bed at the end of the day. Follow up by vacuuming all of the baking soda from the bed, carpet and furnishings and returning the bed linens and cushion covers or slipcovers to the furniture.
