Clean the cage. If you have rats, mice, gerbils, ferrets, rabbits, and other pets that live in cages with bedding, the cage could be making your whole house stink. Gently remove your pet and place the pet somewhere safe, such as a second cage. Then, get to cleaning:
That’s a great question Gary. Regarding how to remove dog urine from carpet that has set in, we recommend the same products and techniques. People really rave about Nature’s Miracle and some members of our team have used it as well. We’ve read that it performs well for urine that has dried up, so I would recommend purchasing it and seeing how it works. Best of luck!

Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, is a weak base chemical. As such, it neutralizes many acids, which are the cause of most odors, including any your pet can create on his own. This means that, unlike topical fragrances, baking soda does not merely mask odors, it destroys an acid’s ability to make an odor.
Always check with your doctor if your pee is pink or red. You might have blood in your urine. It doesn’t always mean there’s a problem, but it can be a sign of kidney disease, a UTI, prostate problems, or a tumor.
The stain trapper is helpful in removing tough pet stains. Cleanshot Trigger technology is a function that directs the formula straight to the stains, which means that it will be easier to clean tough stains.
Put on your rubber gloves, spray from the outside edge of the stain towards the middle, working the vinegar solution into the carpet fibers with your fingers or a clean, lint-free cloth, towards the middle of the stain.
A baking soda paste with some essential oils (baking soda, a few drops of essential oil, enough water to form a paste) gently spread/rubbed over the surface and allowed to sit for 30 minutes, wiped up, and then followed by a vinegar spritz, is useful if none of the above work for you (all the above can be used on old or fresh stains/odors.)
Have two dogs, when we go out and be gone couple of hrs, they piss and poop on the carpet. It is in the smae spot everytime. I have scrubbed an did evrything to get rid of this smell. How do I keep them from using the bathroom and in the same spot?
Be warned, you may want to not be as vocal as I was when I was so impressed with the results that this cleaner had produced. It cleaned so well that I told my ENTIRE extended family and now everyone wants to try (borrow) mine, grrrr…. I’m literally having to organize a schedule so I can get it back in time to clean our rugs as I want to clean them at least twice a month so they do not get as bad as they were EVER again! I told everyone that I want it to come back with a “FULL TANK” LOL *meaning I want a FULL container of cleaning solution when it finally gets back to me! 😉

The following chart outlines some of the most common color variations for urine and their possible origins. The majority of the time, color changes resulting from foods, medications, supplements, or simply dehydration. But there are certain signs that warrant concern.
I have tried the Baking soda and Vinegar mixture, because the smell was horrid…. I let it dry several hours and i can still smell the urine…. Is there anything else i can do? i need a shampooer but do not have one at the moment… Please Help!
I’m interested in the intersection between design and technology—whether for drywall or robotic vacuums—and how the resulting combination affects consumers. I’ve written about consumer advocacy issues for publications like The Atlantic, PC Magazine, and Popular Science, and now I’m happy to be tackling the topic for CR. For updates, feel free to follow me on Twitter (@haniyarae).
Some of our furry friends only occasionally slip, whereas others urinate on the carpet more frequently — especially older pets. These smells contain a strong ammonia odor that can stink up the entire home.
3. Works very well at stain removal using just the beater bar/floor tool and no attachment/hand held for tough foot traffic stains. I have not used it to remove set in pet stains so far as I use a “cat urine” eliminator “Get Serious” to remove the cat urine smell and it also removes the stains. I haven’t tried to remove old urine stains yet with it since I have none after having used GET SERIOUS. It does remove yellowed spots where I have allowed the cat urine to set for long periods (because it was behind a piece of furniture that only gets moved once a month when we move it to vac under it), but a month is hardly time to judge a yellow urine stain as “set in”. I have removed brown rust colored stains that the last professional carpet shampooer company “brought up” (Funny, they were in the middle of an open room and at the base of our stairs where no stain was prior to their coming and the stain wasn’t there until we refused for the umpteenth time their attempt to up-sell us on worthless products!!) and I had previously been unable to get that stain out using my Little Green Machine without it coming back up to the surface after a few weeks. I have only had this machine two weeks and have used it on the room 3 times in order to do a deep thorough clean and also to try and get some pet hair out. I have used it in “spots”, too but only a total room clean 3 times.
Figuring out which product to use is the first step in making sure that your home stays fresh and neat no matter how many pets you might own. With the best pet stain and odor remover at your side, there’s no need to apologize for smells and stains that tend to accumulate with even the best-mannered buddies around the house. Figure out which is right for you and give it a shot, it’s time you start winning this war.
The whole house has a faint kennel smell, even the morning after I wash all the throw rugs and mop all the floors (he’s too small to be marking furniture yet, so that’s not it) and her room positively reeks, but I can see no signs of missed accidents. His pen is made from old pallets, but it is just a two sided frame, and he is only in it when we are gone, so even if he has managed to pee on it, it shouldn’t smell THAT strongly, should it? If it could, can I fix it, or do I need to rebuild it with new, painted or varnished wood? What can I do?! I love cats, but won’t have them inside because I simply can’t stand that smell, so this is driving me crazy, like, no matter what I do, my house seems dirty! Help!!
I hope that you have found this article useful and now know how to remove the odor of dog urine from your carpets and eliminate the evidence of those little accidents that are bound to happen from time to time! I use only ingredients from my store cupboard and have never found it necessary to use hydrogen peroxide.
It’s a little bit expensive, but this enzymatic cleaner is one of the best around. It helps to lock in odors and even handle minor stains with a remarkably efficient process. Combined with your steam carpet cleaner and you might never have to worry again.
In the absence of other symptoms, such as pain with urination, cloudy or dark urine color, or unusual frequency of urination, there is usually little reason for concern. But reccurring ammonia odor in pregnancy should still be brought to a doctor’s attention.
Take a brush to upholstered furniture like couches. Fill a bucket with warm water and several drops of liquid dish soap. Swirl the water to create suds. Dip a soft-bristled brush into the suds and brush the entire surface of the furniture. Wipe with a barely damp cloth and air dry.
Huge fan of Genesis 950 for removing pet stains. I have an older dog who struggles to get outside. Because of this, I have had issues with odor more so than the visible staining. The carpet is kind of a cream color so you can’t always see the stains, or tell when they are there, but you can smell it after the dog has gone. The 950 has been the only thing to not just neutralize the odors, but also deodorize them. I can’t always stop the dog from going there, but I can at least get rid of the smell when it happens.
Orange: When your pee is the color of a citrus-flavored soft drink, it’s probably because of meds like high-dose vitamin B2, the UTI drug phenazopyridine, or the antibiotic isoniazid. Depending on the color, it could also be a sign that you’re dehydrated or that there’s a problem with your liver or bile duct. You should ask your doctor about it.
Fortunately, the budget cost doesn’t seem to have had too much of a hit to its efficacy. This stuff works. You’ll be able to handle most stains and odors simply, just spray it down, give it some time to work, and then finish the job.
