I called the company after using this product for a while because I needed them again. My son had crawled into my husbands arm chair and got sick right in the crack. The whole chair REEKED! So I asked them if they had something that worked as well on vomit stink because this chair was about to hit the curb. He said, SUN works on that too. Really! So I used it on the “vomit chair”, and my husband is in that chair at this very moment watching TV, vomit stink just a bad memory.
If you’re not willing to do all of the research to make sure you get the perfect pick for your own home and needs… this BISSELL DeepClean Lift-Off might be exactly the ticket and it’s sure not to disappoint if paired with the right shampoo.
you said that you are treating your dog with Crananidin and Cosequin every other day. And that “Nutramax pharm. makes the products. Is this a mail order pharm. And did your vet come up with this solution on taking this or did you research on the internet.
I’ve been looking for how to remove dog urine smell from carpet and think I found the answer. My family grew up using Resolve and I remember it not working. However, when I got married my husband swore by it, so I gave it another chance. They must’ve changed their formula because it actually works! We’ve only had to use it a couple times, once when our dog went potty inside and another time when I spilled watermelon juice on our WHITE chair (shhhh don’t tell my husband). Thankfully both stains are gone and everything looks (and smells) great!
Be warned, you may want to not be as vocal as I was when I was so impressed with the results that this cleaner had produced. It cleaned so well that I told my ENTIRE extended family and now everyone wants to try (borrow) mine, grrrr…. I’m literally having to organize a schedule so I can get it back in time to clean our rugs as I want to clean them at least twice a month so they do not get as bad as they were EVER again! I told everyone that I want it to come back with a “FULL TANK” LOL *meaning I want a FULL container of cleaning solution when it finally gets back to me! 😉
CR’s take: The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 has front-to-back sliding brushes instead of rotational brushes, like other carpet cleaners, similar to the commercial version of the Rug Doctor you can rent. It’s relatively heavy at 43 pounds and takes 3 gallons of water to fill its tank—easily adding up to 25 pounds to its weight—and wasn’t very intuitive when our testers went to fill it up. It does have a long hose, at 155 inches, so you won’t have to lug it at every turn, and its dryness score is Excellent. But unless you have a lot of carpet to clean and plan to clean often, you might want to consider a lighter model.
All of this one-on-one time means that all of our furnishings are going to hold the distinct smell of dog, and even the most rabid of dog lovers amongst us may not want the whole house to smell of a dog that needs a good washing – not if we want to enjoy the company of human guests. So how do you get rid of that smelly dog smell? We’re happy to tell you that it’s relatively easy.
Once you have got the area as dry as you can, liberally sprinkle on ordinary baking soda, again working it into the fibers of the carpet with your fingertips (don’t forget the rubber gloves!), or an old, soft toothbrush.
Fortunately, the budget cost doesn’t seem to have had too much of a hit to its efficacy. This stuff works. You’ll be able to handle most stains and odors simply, just spray it down, give it some time to work, and then finish the job.
Well, after the black light arrived, we went around the house and found white patches showing up EVERYWHERE! I read that the bright white can be from left-over carpet cleaners, that urine should be dull and yellowish. Anyhow, in our case, the black light did not help us identify urine spots, because most of the white spots did not smell like urine, and there was so much “white” that we cannot tell “yellow”. We gave up the idea of “spot-cleaning” except for one spot that I definitely smelled urine.
For the bed, you might want to do this in the morning so that you can clean and remake the bed at the end of the day. Follow up by vacuuming all of the baking soda from the bed, carpet and furnishings and returning the bed linens and cushion covers or slipcovers to the furniture.
Absorb smells with a deodorizer. There are lots of deodorizers that can target pesky pet smells. You can purchase one from the store, or make your own if you’re feeling crafty and thrifty. Two of the most popular items are baking soda and vinegar, which you can spray around the house, on carpets, on beds, and elsewhere to help remove smells. To make your own deodorizers:
Industrial urine odor and stain remover. Comes in a 4 ounce concentrate which makes 1/2 gallon of ready to use odor and stain removal solution. Once you have located the urine you can effectively treat it with SUN solution and remove 100% of the odor. Urine creates two different problems: 1. Odors 2. Stains. Stains are easy to find because they can be seen. The odors are more difficult because they cannot be seen. There are 5 different type stains created by urine. The best way to remove each varies. How to remove the odor. Step One: Locate all the urine residue. Step Two: Treat the urine residue with SUN solution. That’s it! If you find all the urine residue and treat it with the SUN solution it will eliminate the odor immediately, completely and permanently. To locate the urine you need to find where it was deposited and determine how far it has spread and how deep it has soaked. Again, finding all the urine residue (so it can be treated) is the key to success. A small pet weighing 5 pounds will eliminate 2 ounces of urine twice a day. In a year’s time this can add up to 11 gallons of urine. 4 ounces of urine can spread to cover an area 9 inches in diameter below the carpet surface. Step One: Find The Urine. Tools to help find the urine: 1. Eyes 2. Nose 3. Black Light 4. Moisture Detector.
For more stubborn stains and aromas, there are several green enzymatic cleaners you can find to spray on your carpet or, if you have older stains to tackle, consider renting a carpet-cleaning machine from a local store. Rinse the tank out well before use and don’t use the chemical-heavy cleanser that’s often sold with the rental. Instead, Bond recommends using a natural cleaner or a combination of white vinegar and water.
While commercial products offer a lot of advantages, there are a couple of ways that you can take care of things yourself without investing in a product. They might not be quite as efficacious but it’s always good to save a bit of cash.

Dealing with a dog who pees in the house is a pain, but there are steps you can take, especially if your otherwise perfect pooch likes to piddle on the carpet. Dog urine has an unpleasant smell and over time the odor becomes more difficult to remove. To prevent your dog from urinating on carpets while you train it to urinate outdoors, you may use certain commercial repellents or home remedies. Dogs have very sensitive noses, so often a strong smelling repellent sprayed on their usual pee spot will be enough to dissuade your dog from peeing. It’s important to clean the areas well before you apply any solutions, especially if the dog has urinated on the carpets as dogs tend to return to places that have a urine odor. Also, be sure to spot test any of these repellents before spraying large areas to be sure no discoloration of your carpet occurs.
This is a great, all around solution to anything which you might face as a result of your animals lack of training or illness. It’s an enzymatic cleaner which scores top points from us for its ability to be used anytime, anywhere to make short work of even the toughest stains and the foulest odors.
The more powerful the motor you’re working with, the cleaner you’re going to be able to make sure you get things. A lower powered motor makes sense if you’re dealing with office carpet and the occasional coffee spill or just the dust that inevitably gets tracked in from outdoors.
If you notice a wet spot that may have happened earlier in the day, sprinkle it with baking soda and let it sit overnight, said Annie B. Bond, green living expert and author of Clean and Green. After the patch dries overnight, spray it with distilled white vinegar and don’t be concerned if the carpet bubbles a bit while the compounds interact to clean.
It is also a good idea to empty the bladder completely when urinating, to avoid remnants of urine dripping on to clothing. Wiping well and rinsing with water, if needed, after urinating can also minimize the bacteria that cause infections and ammonia-smelling urine.
Iodine is also used when you have a situation with dog pee smell on the wooden surfaces. The solution is prepared in the same way. If the odor remains after all your attempts maybe you should consider contacting drycleaner or cleaning professionals. Sometimes old pee smell is very difficult to remove.
Once the area is clean, make it unattractive and/or unavailable to your pet and the appropriate bathroom area attractive. As long as your pet can smell their personal scent, they will continue to return to the “accident zone.”
What I finally did was to purchase this baking soda based + fragrance carpet deodorizer (Arm & Hammer brand with oxy-clean which pulls up 25% more dirt), sprinkled all over, brush the carpet with a broom to spread out the powder, then vacuum in 30 mins. I am quite pleased as I no longer smell urine in the house.
I haven’t had an issue, but everyone’s floors are a little different, so I’d suggest trying a small inconspicuous area just to be sure 🙂 Honestly, if it’s a smooth, hard, surface, I usually just mop up and liquids/pick up any solids and then use vinegar with some essential oil in it to clean.
urine can penetrate the face fibers, also the backing which is plastic.sometimes with a big pet it can reach down to the pad and the subfloor wood or concrete.first pull carpet off of tack strip check to see if urine has gone into the plastic or back of carpet.if you see or smell it there but not in padding or concrete then apply a enzyme treatment to it and extract the urine with a extractor.flip carpet back down onto tack strips and apply to fibers on top carpet rinse with extractor.dry carpet with high speed air mover.if the urine soaks padding remove and discard.apply enzyme to subfloor clean and extract and dry out
