“how to remove pet urine smell from carpet +urine stains”

Maria, it might be worth it… Otherwise, if it hasn’t been recarpeted yet, I’d spray the heck out of it with Simple Solution. Just completely saturate it and hope it soaks far enough into the wood to get to the urine. Are there particular areas where it seems the cat/cats liked to go?
There is one thing…I’ve used the solution for years. But I make only what I need for that one moment. It will not work if you let it sit. I also do not use it in a spray bottle. I pour tiny bits and saturate the area. The only time I’ve used a large amount, I made a bucket of the stuff. My cat got stuck in the bathroom by shutting the door for a weekend and peed EVERYWHERE on natural stone tile. I made a bucket at a time, and it took three times pouring it on the floor and swabbing it around and letting it dry…. but it is not no longer there!
You can find stores near you that sell Clorox® Urine Remover on our Shop Now page. It’s a good idea to call the store before going, to make sure they have it in stock. If you have any trouble finding it at a nearby store, you can also buy it online.
White vinegar is great to get rid of some odors, though it isn’t always effective against cat and dog pee. Used straight from the bottle or diluted with water, white vinegar will help neutralize pet urine odors, and it won’t leave behind a sour vinegar smell.
Clean old pet messes with an enzyme cleaner. Hidden or improperly cleaned messes are often the culprits behind pet odor. If there are areas where there have been recent pet messes, spray the area with an enzyme cleaner. Let the cleaner soak in for 30 minutes, and then blot it dry with a clean cloth. You may find that the pesky pet odor has disappeared.
Inappropriate urination is more than a nuisance. Besides in the case of cats who haven’t yet been litterbox trained, urinating outside of designated area in the house usually signals that something is wrong. Cats don’t like to urinate in places where they can’t cover up their waste – so if your cat is doing this, they’re probably no happier about it than you are.
Whew sorry for that novel-I really could go on about potty-training. I hope at least some part of it proves useful. Stick with it and he’ll figure it out! Feel free to ask anymore questions you have-hopefully I didn’t just confuse you more! 😀
I would suggest politely going to your neighbor and discussing your concern. Your neighbor might be “nose blind” and not realize the smell is so potent and traveling into your home. You could try different air fresheners with odor eliminating properties but it’s best to remove the source of the offensive odor.
10. Grab a paper towel, and try to blot up as much of the urine as possible. If it’s a large spot and you don’t want to waste paper towels, use a cloth towel or old clothes that can be thrown away. If the spot is on the carpet, stand on the wet spot (remember to wear shoes).
So if you’re trying to rid your home of disgusting odors, noxious gases, or foul fumes, dont spray air fresheners that will only contribute to your indoor air pollution. Instead, freshen your air with a quality air purifier. Your nose will appreciate it!
Make a simmer pot. When you boil water in the kitchen, the water particles evaporate and get carried around the house. You can turn this into a potent air freshener by adding your favorite herbs, spices, and citrus rinds to a pot, filling it with water, and boiling it on the stove with the lid off for a couple of hours. Ingredients you can use in the simmer pot include:[17]
For really tough cat urine odor, you may have to treat the area more than once. Carpet, furniture and mattresses typically require 1-2 treatments. Concrete, wood, tile and other hard surfaces usually need 3-5 treatments with 1 treatment a day.

We love our four-legged friends dearly…but not so much the stains and messes they leave behind. We can’t blame them really-they don’t come into the world knowing they have to go outdoors or in the litter box every time they have to go potty! There’s no way to avoid the mess, no matter how well trained your friend is, but by making your own cleaners you can avoid lasting stains and extra money spent on store-bought stain removers.
We have a consumer Hoover “steam” cleaner and have repeatedly gone over the affected areas on several occasions, but can’t get rid of the odor. Is there any hope for getting rid of the smell? We don’t want to replace the carpet yet, as it’s likely she’ll keep repeating the behavior.
