Decomposition odors can be caused by many different things from the common spill of a beverage that penetrated too deep for traditional cleaning methods or from bodily fluids such as blood left over from unfortunate events such as trauma or crime scenes.  These odors are not only unpleasant but may provide evidence of health hazards such as bacteria or harmful gases such as H²S more commonly called “sewer gas.” This gas, commonly derived from the decomposition of organic materials and bodily fluids can be toxic at certain levels. Decomposition odors may also indicate the presence of dangerous airborne pathogens.
Thank you everyone. I have a suitcase that someone peed in (I think), as well as the clothes that were in it. The person who belongs to the clothes is appalled, and I really need to find out: 1. How to fix it; 2. Why whoever did it…did it.
Thanks for the tip because my cat just pee’d on my body pillow and my blanket and the worst part is that the pillow and blanket were my favourite pillow and blanket so now I’m very sad and I wish there is also another pillow the same and also the blanket as well and this did help me a lot but the worst fact is that we don’t have white vinegar or baking soda at our place. So I might be out of luck right now but maybe we will go out and maybe the ingredients and maybe that will help me but at the moment I really dislike my cat we are not letting him back in the house because we don’t trust him peeing on anything else in our house and thanks again for making this website so I will know what to do if he does it again and I will know exactly which website to go on and of course I couldn’t thank you enough so bye bye and maybe you’ll see me put another message on this app again I don’t know what will happen but I just wanted to tell you I could not have thanked you enough whoever made this website thanks and I hope you will live the best life ever you probably will since your already making everybody’s else’s lives better so bye bye now!!!! Your the best
The problem with cat urine soiling on carpets and other porous furnishings is that it is not always detected until it begins to smell. When the cat first urinates it has very little smell but as time goes by and the urine begins to decompose the odor becomes very unpleasant.
Once you’ve cleaned a particular area, prevent a recurrence by changing the significance of that area to your cat. In other words, since cats prefer to eat and eliminate in separate areas, place food bowls and treats in previously soiled areas, or play with your cat in that space and leave toys there.
As a commercial contractor, I’ve seen ways in which businesses are changing their practices to become more eco-friendly. The travel industry in particular is constantly changing what they do in order to be LEED certified. » More
Next, I tried the Nature’s Miracle Urine Destroyer per the instructions on the bottle (not for the carpet cleaning machine). It initially helped much more than the other two products. This product definitely leaves behind a lasting perfume scent, if unobjectionable. After a few days the entire area still smells strongly of urine. I repeated and ended up using all of the roughly 1 to 2 quart bottle on the 4 sqft smelly area with no success whatsoever.
BTW…another page warned to never used a steam machine for carpets when you are dealing with a cat stain/smell as the hot steam will set it into the carpet… I am wondering if this will be the same for the laundry…???
When your cat takes to urinating outside the litter box, the smell can be difficult to get rid of and nearly impossible to mask. Whether the cat pees on a carpet, a piece of furniture, bed linens, or your clothes, it’s important to neutralize the odor both to avoid embarrassment and to prevent the cat from becoming a repeat offender, as they’ll often return to a spot where they have previously urinated if the odor is not eliminated.  Consider this your ultimate guide to eliminating cat urine smells from your home and determining why your cat may be urinating outside of his or her litter box.
Wipe up and blot. Using paper towels, blot up as much of the urine as possible if the surface is fabric or carpet. With these surfaces, there is a danger of the urine soaking into the fibers of the material. Use a gentle dabbing motion to blot up the urine.[4]
Anyone with small children, pets, or a smoker in the house knows all too well that room deodorizers and air fresheners only mask the smell temporarily and don’t solve your real air cleaning needs. You’re left buying more and more and more to constantly mask offending odors. To gain fresh, clean air, the odors in your home must be neutralized and cleaned completely. Odors like strong cooking smells, chemical fumes, and tobacco smoke are particularly dangerous for people with asthma, allergies, COPD, or MCS. As the air reaches the lungs, these bothersome odors and fumes trigger allergic and asthmatic reactions.
I have 3 dogs been having them for 2 years 1 is trained but the other two they go back and forward with the accidents and ive had enough withh the ammonia smell making me sick.i do everything thats possible take them on walks but sometimes they just rather come home and do their business here. Please help any suggestions are well appreciated .thank you
Uric acid, the stuff that causes the odor, is not water soluble and will not respond to water-based cleanup methods. An enzymatic cleaner breaks down the uric acid and removes the smell. Soak the soiled area with the enzymatic cleaner — as deep into the cushions as the urine did. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
There are many simple ways for the job. You can place a piece of charcoal next to the spot or directly on it. The smell will go away over time. Sunlight is also an easy way to remove odor but you might need a few days for it to go away.

The type of surface that you’re going to apply on is also a factor to consider. See if the product is recommended for your upholstery, carpet, floor, and so on. It’s best to choose removers with a natural bacterial formula. They have no harm to your health and also very good at their job.
Sometimes dog urine accidents have already dried because you did not notice them previously. You can find dried urine spots on your carpet with the aid of a black light. The dog urine stains will fluoresce under the ultra violet light in a darkened room. Hand held black lights are quite inexpensive usually costing between $15 – $25.
We live in the foothills (rural) and there are a few feral cats in the area that are fighting for territory. I was very used to seeing spray spots all over my tires. One day I got in my pickup which I don’t drive all that often and it wreaked of cat pee. After research I pulled up the drive side mat and the carpet was SOAKED with cat pee. I always keep the windows close and upon further research I determined that it appears the urine is being sprayed from under the bottom door seal? Is this possible? With how much upward force/flow can a Tom spray his urine?

Pour enough vinegar and water (a 50/50 mix) on the spot to dampen the area. Do not over wet, you want to keep the stain contained to the area you’re working on – not spreading it around unnecessarily.
My cat peed down the floor heat register and I cannot get rid of the smell. I have used Natures Miracle by pouring it down the vent and then wiping with a long handled brush several times, but the smell is still there any suggestions?
I am very surprised at all the good reviews on Odorzout products. Not sure why it seems to work for some and not others. I have the laundry one as well as this all purpose one and I have had NO LUCK at all with using this. My husbands work clothes were the main test for the laundry version of this and it FAILED miserably, over and over. It failed even on minor odors so this is all a waste of money to me. I have recently read reviews of what a nightmare it is to vacuum up from carpet and floors if you don’t have a strong shop vac and I can see where that would be the case. If you are desperate it may be worth trying since it seems to work for some.
