All of this one-on-one time means that all of our furnishings are going to hold the distinct smell of dog, and even the most rabid of dog lovers amongst us may not want the whole house to smell of a dog that needs a good washing – not if we want to enjoy the company of human guests. So how do you get rid of that smelly dog smell? We’re happy to tell you that it’s relatively easy.
Products that use more traditional methods of cleaning with solvents (to dissolve stains) and surfactants (surface active agents that “wet” the carpet) may not be as effective and can actually deactivate enzymatic cleaners. Keep an eye on the ingredient panel for chlorine, ammonia and sodium lauryl sulfate, as these can be harmful to pets (and people, too). If the product’s instructions direct you to keep pets and children away from the product after it has been applied, you might want to think twice about using it in your home.
6. It has large wheels on the back of the machine so that when you need to move it from one place to another and you aren’t using the motor i.e. re-positioning or putting it away so that you can lean the machine back on those two wheels and move it like a dolly cart, etc. The machine is NOT self-propelled, going to the “heavy duty” con below. 🙂
CR’s take: At 105 inches long, the hose on this carpet cleaner makes the Hoover a good candidate for homes with carpeted stairs and other hard-to-reach spots. This model is slightly lighter than the Bissell ProHeat 2X Lift-Off Pet at 18 pounds empty and 27 pounds when full of solution. And at this price, it’s easier on your wallet, too. It scores Very Good at both cleaning and drying, and can cover up to 33 square feet of carpet on one tank of solution.
Whew sorry for that novel-I really could go on about potty-training. I hope at least some part of it proves useful. Stick with it and he’ll figure it out! Feel free to ask anymore questions you have-hopefully I didn’t just confuse you more! 😀
If you suspect you have a urinary tract problem, you should consult your physician. One of the first things he or she is likely to do is a urine test. Urine tests have been around for more than 6,000 years1 and are easy, noninvasive tools for quickly assessing your health status2.
Urine usually has a distinct odor, but under normal circumstances, the odor is relatively mild and not too noticeable. Certain conditions, however, may cause your urine to have an unusual or unpleasant odor, which may raise concerns about a problem or abnormality.
You don’t have to accept this as part of your adventure with your favorite furry friends. Get a cleaner, get the right shampoo, and you’ll be glad to know that there is an end in sight to what some consider the primary disadvantage of pet ownership. Just make sure you do your research and you’re good to go and well on your way to an odor and stain free home that you thought was an impossibility since you brought Fido home from the pound.
The best carpet cleaner products for pets should not only simplify clean-ups, but also work to discourage pups from returning to the same area of your home when they need to go. Because pups are often prompted to relieve themselves in the same spot by the scent of their own urine, you’ll want to pick up a pet carpet cleaner that not only gets rid of those tough-to-remove stains, but works to wipe out all traces of the odor as well. Many dog and cat parents agree that by removing all traces of odor and stains, the best carpet cleaner for pets makes it easier to teach them to seek an appropriate place to take care of business.
It might sound strange to think that something as pungent as vinegar removes odors, but it does. Some pet odors, like a dog’s body funk that seeps into your linens or couch, are the result of alkaline chemicals, which the acids in vinegar neutralize, just as baking soda neutralizes acid odors.
I ran into a problem with my one dog going pee in the house and I knew something was wrong because I let her out every hour. So I ended up taking a urine sample to the vet and she had crystals in her urine which causes great pain in their bladder. The vet said it was like little pieces of glass in her bladder. I am treating her with Crananidin and Cosequin every other day because when so took it every day her poop was like soft serve ice cream. Works great no more pee in the house. Consult you vet for proper dosage. Nutramax pharm.
Stain isolators… isolate stains. This keeps the urine or other serious issues out of your normal water tank. While it might not be a problem in many situations, you’ll quickly find that frequent usage without one is going to take some ammonia and a rag to make sure your entire machine doesn’t start to reek.
Slowly pour your solution onto the site and gently scrub with paper towels or a soft brush. Let sit for 15 minutes, then dust with baking soda. When it’s dry, vacuum. You might need to do this a few times for tough stains or especially strong odors.
Urine is 95 percent water and five percent urea, uric acid, minerals, salts, enzymes, and various substances that would cause problems if allowed to accumulate in your body4. Normal urine is clear and has a straw yellow color, caused by a bile pigment called urobilin.
5. Super easy to clean for storage after use . The machine comes apart very easy and it is also easy to remove the beater bar/brush on the floor/front and rinse it out to remove all of that cat/dog hair from my many pets. I have A LOT of hair each time I use it. Simply run it under the faucet and everything rinses out. It also tells you in the instructions to use it with hot water cycle through at the end before you store it for a long period of time. I do this with my Little Green Machine, too, but not quite what they are telling you to do, so don’t do what I do because it isn’t what they are telling you to do. I set a bowl in the sink, turn the faucet on to hot tap water, run the water in the bowl, then stick the nozzle into the bowl and let it suck up clean water until the tank fills-empty, repeat, empty repeat, until the dirty water tank is running clear. That gets the soap and residue out of the lines along the way on both my Little Green as well as this machine, using the hand held hose attachment. You can remove the beater bar VERY EASILY and run it under the faucet to clear it from the soap, hair, etc. It only weighs 2 pounds, tops. Super easy to clean.
I had come on here to find a way to remove pet stains. After reading through the comments, I found one person who said about Genesis 950. I had never heard of it before, however I had gone through virtually every cleaner at the pet store and nothing was working. I was about to give up and replace the carpet . . . I probably could have with everything I spent on cleaners.
I have cats. And when felines are around there can be an accident or two. I have tried multiple products that claim they break down enzymes, that are organic, they remove odors, blah blah blah making all claims but don’t work. So I read the reviews on this page and ordered 2 bottles. One for me and one for my boyfriend who owns a large dog. This product has gotten rid of the smell of cat urine unlike any other. And so well, that the cat has not re-marked that spot or any other. I have put my nose down to it, almost touching the previously soiled area and can’t smell anything! Even the product’s great fragrance is gone. I mean, it just smells…….clean! I totally recommend this product. The bottle is small but that is because it is concentrated. I am a believer, hallelujah, it works!!!!! I wish it came in gallon size and wish it had combined shipping when ordering more than 1!!!!!!!
Ah so glad you’re giving it a try! For coffee stains you can try the ones above, or you can try gently rubbing a bit of soap (not detergent, which is often sold as soap, but true soap, such as castile) into the coffee stain. Lightly dampen the spot with water first. For any of them test a very teensy area first to make sure doesn’t discolor your carpet. Let me know how it works or if you have any questions-paws crossed that it gets the job done 😉
In those with diabetic ketoacidosis, the body uses fat to fuel the body instead of sugar or glucose. As a result, ketones or blood acids build up in the system resulting in urine that smells subtly different, accompanied by fruity breath.8
I have 2 older poms, Bear is 10 and had a bad time for several months of drinking every drop of water, several times a day and then constantly having accidents all over the house. And every time I took them out, he went a lot! First vet visit I was told that his urine was too watered to tell if he had any infection. Then told they wanted him brought back for expensive testing to check for cushings disease. Since I couldn’t afford $500-$1000 in testing medications, I decided to change their dry food to something more reputable. Since taking them off just 6 and on to nature’s balance then blue wilderness (slightly more affordable) Bear is doing great! Maybe 2-3 accidents in last 5 months! (That may have been my fault for not getting them outside for too long) I am not trying to talk bad about any vets or food labels, I just want to share this experience because it may be helpful to someone.
I work for a carpet cleaning company and we use a product called Skunk Out by Adco Pro Cleaning. It doesn’t take much and it works very well. The product contains active enzymes that break down the ammonia in the urine.
Ciufo also recommends that you think about space and storage, and look for models with attachments that suit your needs. “If you want to clean your furniture, look for a carpet cleaner with a brush that is easy to swivel around cracks and clean fabric,” he says.
Red/Pink Hematuria (fresh blood in the urine) related to urinary tract infection (UTI), kidney stone, or rarely cancer; consumption of red foods such as beets, blueberries, red food dyes, rhubarb; iron supplements; Pepto-Bismol, Maalox, and a variety of other drugs5; classic “port wine” color may indicate porphyria (genetic disorder) ***Consult your physician immediately if you suspect you have blood in your urine
I have a very sensitive nose, so just covering up a smell wasn’t good enough for me. I wanted it GONE! Finally, in desperation, I searched for severe urine removal, and the SUN products popped up. I figured, I’ve tried everything else, what the heck? I ordered it, tried it on a single spot, and almost cried in my relief. This stuff WORKS! Truly works. It does leave behind a pleasant mild scent so I gave it a few days before I was really convinced that it wasn’t just masking the odor. I think what I really was impressed with is when I sprayed it on (I diluted in a spray bottle for convenience), I could see where it would react with the urine. It made it easy to find a spot if I wasn’t really sure where it was. I would spray an area and the spots that had a reaction (it kind of foams a little) I would concentrate on.
This is a great, all around solution to anything which you might face as a result of your animals lack of training or illness. It’s an enzymatic cleaner which scores top points from us for its ability to be used anytime, anywhere to make short work of even the toughest stains and the foulest odors.
If you have a puppy, an elderly dog, or a dog still mastering their potty training skills, you’ve dealt with pee in the house. Depending on what surface they go on, and how long it sits before you find it, that stubborn dog pee smell can really stick around! But it doesn’t have to.

If you can’t trust her loose in the home, kennel train her. Doggies don’t soil their den. You can also check her for Urinary Track infection if kennel training works when she is in there and not when she is loose, or take her out more often. Moving her outside is punishment that isn’t appropriate when training is required, or it’s a medical issue. Subjects her to varmints at night, mosquitos spreading heartworm disease, and possibly barking disturbing neighbors. Doggies don’t misbehave without something going on.
